In love

I meant to write up some LJ entry of substance for today, but I ended up getting hit by a bolt of fic lightning and spent all of yesterday writing that instead. 3500 words in 24 hours. That's unheard of for me.

I've been talking with kestrelsan about why we enjoy writing some stories more than others. Or maybe "why" is too strong a word, as we've not come up with a good answer yet.

But sometimes a story comes along and it's like falling in love, at least for me: sweaty palms, butterflies in the stomach, all I can think about. These stories are easier to sit down and write because I really want to be with them.

I don't find, though, that the end result is of higher quality than something I sweated blood over and cursed every day I forced myself to write 100 words. In fact, sometimes the stories that take longer are better because I've had more downtime to mull them over.

It's not just bemusement -- usually I've been as inspired by most of my story ideas. But sometimes there's something that holds that feeling throughout the writing process.

I just wish I knew what makes me fall in love with a story.

Then I'd bottle it and sell it to fans.
