I'm not just listening, I'm doing that little chair dance thing and wondering what kind of vid I could make to this song. I have it on repeat. I'm over thirty.

Ever tried playing it on accoustic guitar? The tab is on OLGA. It makes for a kind of ironic rendition, but not enough so you can actually deny liking it. The Mountain Goats covered it accoustically, which was the first time I heard it, but the regular version is a guilty pleasure of mine too.

well...not sure it's embarrassing any more to love nsync when you're into popslash, but i positively love Up Against the Wall, esp. the concert footage. I often listen to "Sheker ha-Chen, Hevel ha-Yofi" by Ha-Saruf, which would only be embarrassing to admit to an Israeli who knows that it's mindless pop trash (I hid it from my Israeli roommate after I bought it, so he wouldn't laugh at me) -- the lyrics are so simple that even *I* can understand them, and the music is even simpler; I suppose the fact that it's pop trash in a foreign language might give it a little cachet, but it's still trash. As for embarrassing stuff more familiar to other Americans, uh... How about Andrea True Connection, "More, More, More"? *I'm* embarrassed about it, anyway.

Ha. I understand your embarrassment... The song I wanted to put in was Sarit Hadad's (badly translated) cover for "Cambio Dolor", "Kach et Ha'Kol". I think it was dumb in the original version, but this is even worse. "How did I not understand that you lied to me in the name of love?"

On the American pop front, I'll admit to an enjoyment of Backstreet Boys' "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely", which does not prevent me from ridiculing it. "Tell me why I can't be there where you are?" Because of a restraining order, perhaps?

That happened to my friends and I in college. The walls were really bare, and for some reason we had a whole bunch of free Spice Girls posters. So we put them up, and when people asked we were all like "oh, yes, we looooove the Spice Girls." Soon we had their CDs playing in the common room at all times, and by the end of a couple of weeks of this we realized that we actually did love the Spice Girls. So Wannabe has to be my favorite guilty pleasure.
