Confession is good for the soul.

I'm listening to what is, I think, the most embarrassing MP3 on my hard drive: Mmm Bop by Hanson.

I'm not just listening, I'm doing that little chair dance thing and wondering what kind of vid I could make to this song. I have it on repeat. I'm over thirty.

Mmm bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du

I do not repent.

Now that I've shared, what's the most embarrassing song you listen to? 'Fess up.

IIIIIIIII saw the sign, I opened up my eyes and saw the sign, and I am happy now, living without you, I left you, oh oh oh-oh I saw the sign.

Er, yeah. Ace of Base. "I saw the sign."

*facepalms*

(And I rather liked Mmm, Bop too. and I think I learned the dance to Achey-Breaky Heart)

"My Heart Will Go On". 'nuff said.

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
For me it would be the "Hands up, baby hands up" song that used to be used on Club Med commercials.

And I like MMMMBop. I think I'll go download it. ;-)

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I learned the Achy Breaky too, once upon a time.

The Shape of My Hearrrrrrrrrrrrt!

I don't know why! But I have a shameful love for that song.

[identity profile] ranalore.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am assured my mad love for "Blaze of Glory" really should be embarrassing, but I am shameless. I tend to sing along at the top of my lungs.

"I never drew first but I drew first blood! I'm the devil's son! Call me YOUNG GUN!!!"

[identity profile] wickedcherub.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's a really deep song, about living for the moment, doncha know.

"In an mmmbop it's gone, in an mmmbop it's not there..."

*laughs*

Oh, I don't have embarassing songs, I just have songs *other* people deem embarassing. I have Frank Sinatra's "That's Amore".

"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore.."

[identity profile] silentfire.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
my friend hated the backstreet boys song i want it that way. for a time, i sang it every time i saw her in an attempt to get it stuck in her head. it worked, but the song grew on me. stupid karma.

well...not sure it's embarrassing any more to love nsync when you're into popslash, but i positively love Up Against the Wall, esp. the concert footage. They're just so cute and dorky and sing about having sex but almost fall off these little circular disks they're supposed to be hanging on (*runs back into popland where people will squee with me instead of laughing at me* :-)

What, the Sting version? I *love that song!

[identity profile] carmarthen.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Um...either Pink's cover of "I'm Coming Out" (I have reasonably good associations with it, although I don't listen to it much anymore) or any of the Eminem I have on my computer (it makes me feel like a hypocrite to sing along, even as I wince internally at his lyrics).

I could say the ABBA and Aqua, but I have lost ALL SHAME about those.

[identity profile] eliade.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
ELO, Eddie Money, The Bee Gees, Captail & Tenille--my passion for 70s music leads me to funky shame. I have the Ultimate 70s Collection from Time-Life. Yep.

No, the Backstreet Boys? I think?

Oh, that one. Haven't heard it in ages.

You can't have MmmBop, MmmBop is MINE! You say you can but you donnnnn't knooowwwwwwww!

But in keeping with the theme, I've also got a sekrit love for "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba...

I have the Yu-Gi-Oh! Music to Duel By CD in my truck, and I listen to it over and over and over. And when I want a change, I play the Transformers Movie soundtrack.

[identity profile] bowdlerized.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I can only listen to Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" when my housemates are not at home. ;)

[identity profile] jkb.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
I often listen to "Sheker ha-Chen, Hevel ha-Yofi" by Ha-Saruf, which would only be embarrassing to admit to an Israeli who knows that it's mindless pop trash (I hid it from my Israeli roommate after I bought it, so he wouldn't laugh at me) -- the lyrics are so simple that even *I* can understand them, and the music is even simpler; I suppose the fact that it's pop trash in a foreign language might give it a little cachet, but it's still trash. As for embarrassing stuff more familiar to other Americans, uh... How about Andrea True Connection, "More, More, More"? *I'm* embarrassed about it, anyway.

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I get knocked down, but I get up again!" Yay for Chumbawumba!

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I must confess that I've loved "Boy Named Sue" since I was a kid. "My name is SUE! How DO you DO?"

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Because of this post, I downloaded MMMBop. It's all your fault. I am blaming you. You have corrupted me.

I also have had an S Club 7 song stuck in my head for most of the evening.

Oh, and I like the Spice Girls.

It all grows on me...

[identity profile] xsmoonshine.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Like mould or something. If you play anything in the background long enough, once I get used to it I like it. And then I get the cd and put it on repeat some more. I have both the Aqua cds and I know the lyrics to them!

[identity profile] persephone-il.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. I understand your embarrassment... The song I wanted to put in was Sarit Hadad's (badly translated) cover for "Cambio Dolor", "Kach et Ha'Kol". I think it was dumb in the original version, but this is even worse. "How did I not understand that you lied to me in the name of love?"

On the American pop front, I'll admit to an enjoyment of Backstreet Boys' "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely", which does not prevent me from ridiculing it. "Tell me why I can't be there where you are?" Because of a restraining order, perhaps?

Tom Jones and Mousse T, Sex Bomb

It's so bad, but I can't resist it!

[identity profile] barkley.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I still do. I found it last night while looking for shameful songs that I had not confessed about. I figure y'all already know about the Barry Manilow (Read 'em and Weep) and Linda Ronstadt and the like. I could find no other shameful songs.

lies, lies, lies

Olivia Newton-John? :O Now that I've got to hear sometime!

[identity profile] narie.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hands Up? I can DANCE to that, oh yes! I still have the choreography somewhere in my head.

As for my most embarrasing song, it boils down to either the Backstreet Boys' Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely or Christina Aguilera's Genie in a Bottle. And I can sing along, even.

[identity profile] toujours-impur.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Eee I like that song ^^ Then again I never heard it except on Full House. *<3s Full House!*

Like A Virgin. Woo.

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2003-11-26 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it's a *song* not a *boyfriend*. We can share.

Fair enough. And as for "Tubthumping," dude, it's all about pissing the night away, pissing the NIIIIGHHTT AWAAAAAYYYYY!

Exactly! Thus my lack of shame.

(Okay, I forgot about the Neil Diamond. I have a copy of him singing 'Hava Nagila'. There's a bit of shame there.)

[identity profile] rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com 2003-11-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I can sing along to "Genie in a Bottle" too! Oh sure, now it's going to stuck in my head. Oh well. It can replace MMMBop.

[identity profile] babydracky.livejournal.com 2003-11-27 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hum... Let me see...

Disney's "Jungle's Book"???
But in French!

Yeah!
"Il en faut...peu pour être heureux,
Vraiment très peu pour être heureux..."

Well, you see, there is always worse...

Bisous!
Baby Dracky!

Ever tried playing it on accoustic guitar? The tab is on OLGA. It makes for a kind of ironic rendition, but not enough so you can actually deny liking it. The Mountain Goats covered it accoustically, which was the first time I heard it, but the regular version is a guilty pleasure of mine too.

Re: It all grows on me...

[identity profile] aretina.livejournal.com 2003-11-29 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That happened to my friends and I in college. The walls were really bare, and for some reason we had a whole bunch of free Spice Girls posters. So we put them up, and when people asked we were all like "oh, yes, we looooove the Spice Girls." Soon we had their CDs playing in the common room at all times, and by the end of a couple of weeks of this we realized that we actually did love the Spice Girls. So Wannabe has to be my favorite guilty pleasure.
