Ooh, I have an iPhone question! If you can get a wireless network, do you need the 3g network for anything? (i.e. an iphone was in my home yesterday and had no signal. If said iphone could hook up to my wireless network, would they need the 3g to do phone stuff?)
If you have the wireless turned on on the iPhone, it will use a wireless network in preference to the 3G. So if the iPhone had access to your network, it wouldn't matter about the 3G. (Except for visual voice mail -- you need the 3G for that.) Since data roaming is so expensive, I'm only using the internet stuff on my iPhone with wireless while I'm in the US; no 3G until I get home.
When I'm in Canada, I usually keep the wireless setting off, since I don't want the phone to connect to the network at work while I'm reading LJ. :D
