hazy shade of winter

It's really amazing how visiting my parents in small town Saskatchewan lowers my brain-activity level. It's already noon here and I feel barely awake. They have wifi but I can't even make myself read LJ. (I'll definitely catch up at some point, though.) It's too cold outside, too hot inside, and too boring everywhere. The coffee is weak, the family is religious, and I've already run out of conversation. And my partner couldn't get time off work, so there's no one to commiserate with.

I think I psyched myself out by watching all that Corner Gas the last few weeks. I keep expecting Davis to show up so we can have a brief but passionate affair.

There's no point to this post, really. I just wanted to prove to myself that I'm still conscious.

WAKE UP. *prods*

The weak coffee thing is kind of troubling. I think you need to appoint yourself brewmaster.

Since you're gone and not reading LJ, I think I'll watch the rest of PoT and post massive amounts of character squee and probably some Nanjiroh/Momo, and just filter you out. Hope that's OK.

Oh wait, was that the Methos/Dean story that caused the big kerfuffle on fandom_wank over whether Methos would really wear speedos and Dean would give him that heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentine's Day?

Mmm, Johnny Cash.

And for this week's SPN they're in BALTIMORE! I told Barkley that I was surprised they didn't come see me, but I guess they were too busy. Still: kind of disappointing!

Oh god, I get this while vsiting my grandparents. Except coffee.

They don't give me coffee.

They say it's not suitable for children.

No, they don't. And any cafe can provide the coffee I need to survive the day.

Oh ho, visiting the homestead.

It's so so hard to visit them sometimes, isn't it?

Come home soon!

Thinking of you in your time of travail.

I recommend:

Trips to cafes for a change of pace/temperature, ideally fortified with frothy hot beverages. Cocoa is nice if you're doing low-caf.

Checking out the local library.

Dragging the fam to a movie. Gives everyone something to discuss afterward, and 90 minutes of relief from having to talk.

Scrabble. Scrabble is an excellent family coping strategy.

Wow, that *is* small.

Shame about the Starbucks. Yikes. -9C! Brrr.

I didn't realize movies were off limits -- I figured something like "Happy Feet" might pass inspection with even the strictest non-Amish crowd, but that shows you what I know.

Ah, Scrabble. A universal favorite in these situations. Did I ever tell you that I directed two different plays that had Scrabble scenes?

Where are you?

I hail from Regina! If you're out of your mind bored in small town Sask., and you're in our neck of the woods, I highly recommend coming into town for Investitures 2006-A Military Ball. Nothing says Saskatchewan like a room full of drag queens, hot boys in military drag and a soon to be crowned Prince who'd rather be writing slash ;)

Sat., Nov. 11, 2070 Broad St. 9 pm--just ask for Michele :D Course, that goes for everyone else too--come on over, we'll make it nice!

Well, now that I know you brave the wilds of SK once in a while, I'd love to meetcha for a cuppa joe sometime :D
