Doctor Who: Girl in the Fireplace

You know that feeling you get sometimes? When you watch an episode so good, so right, it makes you laugh and cry and put your hand over your mouth, when for at least a few hours, every other show, film, book, comic fades away because what else could possibly be important, what could compare to this?

Oh, I love this feeling.

It's hard to even say why it affected me this way. Just the way Reinette and the Doctor had such a connection. And I really felt it. The way she read his mind. And when she led him into the bedroom at the last and I thought, just maybe... It broke me.

Clockwork clowns under the bed. What do monsters have nightmares about?

The premise was preposterous, but that's not why I watch this show. The horse was very random and the cavalry entrance so predictable, but I DON'T CARE. It's all about the execution and this was beautifully done. Not everything has to be a surprise.

Mickey did well for his first outing. He and Rose were sweet. I hope he sticks around for a while.

Oh Doctor. Your heart is always breaking, isn't it?

Why isn't everybody watching this show?

If you showed me where to download, rapidly or at least smoothly, the episodes of this DW thus far, I would do it, and then I would watch them.

Also. You need to create for the world a guide to PoT for those of us who have never read it (or any manga) but yet want to see the movie. Yes?

Let me see what I can find. Last season, I was just watching when CBC aired them; this season, it won't air here until the fall, so I'm torrenting.

What moved you to want to see the PoT movie? Has my two years of blathering about the series brainwashed you? *g*

The movie -- the live action -- will start from the beginning, afaik, so you won't need a lot of prior knowledge of the canon. I've no idea when we'll see a subbed version, unless there's a camrip and someone subs that. Otherwise, we'll be waiting for the DVD to even see it raw.

If you want to see the manga or the anime, I can fix you up. :)

because I´ve been shipping them since the first lip!biting images came out (my friends says it´s "Zau´s syndrome of shipping anything that breaks Ten/Rose" but I find them utterly hot, and hey, they are real-life dating so it´s Tom Baker/Lalla Ward all over again).

I don't know how I keep being blown away by Tennant's acting, as this is, what, the fifth episode he's been in? Being absolutely brilliant for each one? And yet he makes me breathless every. damn. time. He just sells his scenes, whether it involves a gleeful laugh or a heartbroken look or falling in love or dancing around with a tie on his head declaring the usefulness of bananas.

I'm totally loving how the new series is totally affecting my entire family... last week, we all sat as the credits rolled consoling my parent who had burst into tears but it was hard because me and her husband were fairly close to it too XDD... this week we just all sort of silently stared at the television as the credits rolled, "... that was so good... but so sad... but so good..."

I want Mickey to stay around for a while too, he's really grown on me ^^ it amuses me to think that when he very first appeared, I didn't like him XD now I'm rather fond of him ♥~

It's so great to share an experience like that. There's something about this series that hits me just right, it's just the thing I want to watch.

I'm surprised that Mickey's made it this far -- I thought he would fade away after the first few eps of last season. I've always liked him so I'm glad he's getting more to do.

Somehow even with the most preposterous plotlines it manages to be one of the most honest shows in terms of human emotion I've ever seen. After last week's episode with Sarah Jane Smith and knowing that he'll leave Rose behind eventually, you'd think they'd give us a break, but no. Everything about this episode was heartbreaking. When they showed Rose after he jumped through the mirror I burst into tears. And again when he read his letter. I almost never cry at television shows, but I seem to cry during Doctor Who constantly. Life.

I don't know how they do it, but it always gets me. In some ways more than more "real" shows like BSG. Maybe because Doctor Who is so vivid, more than real somehow -- large as life and twice as natural.
