GW Fic: Countdown (1x2)
Time to get my feet wet in Gundam Wing. Written for the
gw500 "ten" challenge. Only it's 699 words, not 500.
Also, if there are communities I should join or mailing lists I should sub to, please let me know. My fave pairing is 13x5, but I'm pretty easy.
Countdown
1x2, yaoi, lemon
Disclaimer: Bandai et alia, not me.
"Charges all set?" Duo asked. Heero nodded. "Okay, then. We detonate in ten ... nine ... eight ... seven ..."
Heero reached over and pressed the trigger. Duo threw up his arm to shield his face from the sudden bright light. The sound wave threw him back off his feet. "God damn it, Heero," he said. "I wasn't ready."
"I waited long enough," Heero said. He gave Duo a hand up, then turned to leave. Duo grabbed the rest of their equipment and hurried to catch up. His ears were still ringing.
"We have a countdown so that we're both expecting the explosion." Duo shrugged his pack on, falling a step or two behind as he adjusted it across his shoulders and pulled his hair out from under it. People were starting to arrive to investigate the explosion and Duo held back his next remark as the boys melted into the shadows.
Soon they were far from the warehouse and in familiar territory on the edge of town. "The problem with you, Heero, is that you don't play by the rules."
"Yes, I do."
The coffee shop on the corner was still open. "Do you want to get something to eat?" Duo asked. A grilled cheese sandwich would be just the thing after a night of sabotage.
Heero fixed Duo with a flat stare. "We should get back."
"Whatever." Duo sighed. "I hope there's food, though." The small house was close by. They went up the walk, then around to the back. "If you play by any rules, they're *your* rules." Duo unlocked the door and stepped inside. He dropped his pack to the floor. There was half a cold pizza in the refrigerator, he was almost sure. "I never know what you're going to do next."
Then Heero's arm was across Duo's chest, pushing him against the wall. Duo had just time to wonder if Heero had been his enemy all along before Heero leaned in and kissed him.
Duo's heart thudded against his ribcage, louder, harder than it ever did in battle. Heero was sucking at Duo's lower lip, pulling with his teeth, and Duo was surprised enough to let his mouth drop open. Heero pressed his advantage, swiping his tongue over Duo's and kissing him deeply.
Duo struggled once, shivered twice, then put his hands on Heero's waist and kissed him back. Heero yanked Duo to the floor and rolled on top of him. Duo pulled Heero's shirt up and off, raked his hands over Heero's bare back, then down to his ass. Heero made a harsh noise in the back of his throat and sucked at Duo's neck and Duo made a noise of his own.
They weren't quite -- Duo squirmed and shifted and -- there. He rocked up and his cock rubbed against Heero's, both of them hard and straining. Heero rocked too and rolled so they were side by side, humping each other, Heero's mouth still working on Duo's throat.
Then Heero pushed them apart. Duo grabbed at him, couldn't let him get away, but Heero was just kicking off his shorts, and when Duo didn't react fast enough, stripping Duo's pants off too. Heero fisted both their cocks together, while Duo stared at him with glassy eyes and dug his fingers into Heero's shoulder.
Duo came first, the tendons in his legs pulling taut and his breath blowing out of his lungs like they were in vacuum. When his head stopped spinning, he saw Heero finishing himself off, mouth stretched open over his teeth and his eyes shut tight.
They lay there for a while, touching at knee and thigh. Then Heero climbed over Duo and headed down the hall.
"Christ, Heero," Duo said, propping himself against the wall. "That was nice, but would it have killed you to buy me dinner first? Drop me a hint of any kind? Take it slow?"
"I waited long enough," Heero said and closed the bathroom door.
There was no pizza in the refrigerator. Duo went back into the hall. There was jizz on the carpet and he dabbed at it with Heero's shirt as he listened to the shower running. Then he opened the door and stepped inside.

So, that was my first GW fic. What do you think?

The GW fandom is huge and full of crap, but there are rare jems. I think you'll be one of them. I think I should recommend

!! Glassy eyes! Names! *Much* appreciated change from the time-honoured violet/cobalt eyes and braided/brown-haired boys I remember floating around and getting into every 1x2x1 story.

I know, everybody's already been and gone and I'm just getting into it now. I'm perpetually behind the curve.

God, the name thing! I never was much for the whole older man/younger man, taller man/shorter man, crazy man/sane man nomenclature.
Glad you enjoyed. :)

At least this way you come into fandoms with a stock of accumulated goodfic and recs already in place. =) I find I'm missing that in my current new-ish fandoms.
(Also, this gives me hope that you might eventually wander into more of my fandoms sometime in the middle of the next decade. =P)

That's only good for writing good badfic. =)

So, what are they?

The larger ones were Highlander, The Sentinel and Due South, and for anime, Yu Yu Hakusho (fairly old, possibly older than GW), and Saiyuki (canon-in-progress). I think Viridian5 has a few short stories on her site for Saiyuki.
If you're looking for badfic, the latter two fandoms have/had mainly generic Mary Sues, but there's a particularly eye-blinding parody here (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1075704). x_x

Oooh, yes please. All I have is sweet Treize here and I've no time to make more right now.

--totally make my day. The fact that Duo's first thought is that Heero must've turned traitor just makes sense, and also makes the rest of the 'fic that much sweeter. Then again, I notice little things like that. :)
The thought of blowing up a building and strolling home afterwards is oddly amusing, but it probably makes more sense in context, heh.

Well, not so much. *g* This relies on the fanon conceit of the "safe house" where we pretend that the pilots are all living together (and I probably should have referred to the rest of them somehow) in a house on Earth and doing missions together. Which never happened, but it's useful for fanfic, so we use it anyhow.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

GW was my first slash fandom (I still have a long unfinished fic in which Duo and Heero go on a road trip throughout Europe) and it's always nice to see that people are writing in it. ^_^

Love the way you wrote this. It's an old favorite pairing, but you made it feel fresh and new again. The parallel between Heero not waiting to set off the bomb and not waiting to pounce Duo made me laugh.
For mailing lists, if you're partial to the OZ guys, try the GW-OZ mailing list on YahooGroups for all your Ozzie needs. It's not as hugely active as some of the other lists are (or were, I haven't kept up with any others), but it seems to attract some of the...saner people in the fandom, heh. And is one of the only lists not completely dominated by the Gundam boys.

For mls and comms, I'm quite partial to the Death and the Dragon list the Mel and Christy keep; it's fairly lively on the fic-and-feedback front. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Death_and_Dragon/), and not exclusively 2x5. Having polled my flist, they say that
By good, I'm kind of thinking everyone means, not blazing like a beacon in the night with flame wars 24/7.
I'm presuming you've already found most of the GW archives, but just in case it's helpful, my personal favorite is GW Addiction (http://www.gwaddiction.com/).

Hmm... up-against-the-wall-kissing! Never fails to turn me on, as did the frantic humping.
(http://www.gwyaoi.org has a a shitload of fic recommendations, focuses mostly on the traditional yaoi pairings, i.e. 1x2, 3x4 and 13x5. Mostly the former though. I'm also a member of the 1x2ML at yahoogroups, but a lot of really bad fic gets posted there, so join at your own risk. GWaddiction.com was already mentioned, so I'll also point you to Lev's Lair (http://www.gwaddiction.com/levlair/), which is my favorite fanfiction archive, also heavy on the 1x2. Yes, I am in fact an 1x2 fan ^_^.)

And thanks for the ML/web recs. :) I'll check those out soon. I'm on some 1x2 list or another -- gwing, I think, but I'm always good for a few more lists. 13x5 is my fave, but I'm pretty open to any slash pairing in this fandom. (No het, for some reason.)
no subject
I like 13x5 also, but for me, it's really all about the 1x2 *grin*. I can see various het-pairings (like Heero/Relena or Treize/Lady Une), but none of them really work for me, except Wufei/Sally. There really isn't a lot of GW het out there, although it has its hardcore fans (I've once gotten an e-mail berating me for not reading the "normal" couples in GW, i.e. the het ones. That was fun).

:)
And my favorite line is actually:
"A grilled cheese sandwich would be just the thing after a night of sabotage."
It made me laugh, but it's also sad because it depicts how war and destruction have become unremarkable to Duo as part of his daily life.

And now you're getting into Gundam Wing, which was my first fandom
This what I'm getting from everybody *g* -- everyone's been there, done that, moved on, and I'm just getting into GW now. I seem to be behind things always in fandom.
I started drawing for because I wanted to make fan art for it so much, and kept drawing and now I'm working on an art major
That's so cool! That's one area where I have zero talent. (I'm just not very visual at all.) Are you still drawing fanart?
It made me laugh, but it's also sad because it depicts how war and destruction have become unremarkable to Duo as part of his daily life.
That's a good point. I find these boys a little hard to fathom because one one hand, they're 15, but on the other, they are highly trained warriors who face horrific things all the time. It's difficult to know how to allow for that.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the fic and decided to de-lurk. :) Lurking is fine if that's more comfortable for you, but feel free to join the conversation any time.
