Anime question

I am becoming better versed in the jargon of anime fandom, but there's one thing that's been puzzling me. So, readers-in-the-know, help me out here.

When you're saying a pairing out loud, do you pronounce the "x" at all? If I were to speak about Daniel/Jonas, I'd just say "daniel jonas" -- the slash is silent. How about if I were talking about 13x5? Is that just "thirteen five" or am I missing a vital part of the phrase? And how about the "+" in 3+4?

I have to make sure I know these things so I never look dumb. *g*

Oh my god, it just occurred to me that maybe everyone else in fandom is saying "daniel slash jonas" and I already look dumb!

I think it all depends on the pairing. With smooshed names it's easy, like umm.. Timbertrick from popslash. (I still hate 'Snarry' with a vengence and I'm glad 'Drarry' never caught on).

I rarely pronounce the '/' sign.. being 'MulderKrycek' or 'ScullyKrycek' *laughs* but in anime I think it's definitely '1 by 2'.

But I also think it depends who you're talking to. "I read a really good ScullyHolly last night" but for sake of clarity I might pronounce the slash sign. Which really goes against everything my 5th grade teacher taught me. *grin* "Young lady, it is *not* 'and slash or'!"

Now there's an interesting pairing. And/Or. Really opposite sorta fellas.

*walks away slowly*

I giggle everytime I read 'JuC' which is Justin/JC. I think it's pronounced 'Juicy'. Yeah. I'm glad smooshed names never caught on outside popslash and perhaps LOTR RPS (which is just the popslashers moving onto new territory). Though you know they do away with the problem of 'is it Hermione/Draco or Draco/Hermione?' when cataloguing fic. (hmm.. Is it Billidom or Monaboyd?)

Oh. You must check out [livejournal.com profile] schoslashtic.
