Anime question
I am becoming better versed in the jargon of anime fandom, but there's one thing that's been puzzling me. So, readers-in-the-know, help me out here.
When you're saying a pairing out loud, do you pronounce the "x" at all? If I were to speak about Daniel/Jonas, I'd just say "daniel jonas" -- the slash is silent. How about if I were talking about 13x5? Is that just "thirteen five" or am I missing a vital part of the phrase? And how about the "+" in 3+4?
I have to make sure I know these things so I never look dumb. *g*
Oh my god, it just occurred to me that maybe everyone else in fandom is saying "daniel slash jonas" and I already look dumb!

Of course, my involvement with any anime fandom was back in the last millenium, so who knows?

And on the slash thing, sometimes I say "slash", sometimes I don't. I wish there was a guide for these things so I could do it the right way!
...wow, I guess that was really unhelpful, huh? :P

But cute. :)

But I think that in the GW fandom, one actually says "1 by 2" or whatever. I think. I could be wrong.

No idea if that was correct or just me, though.

Hee! I wish it were so.

I don't hear 'by' in the other anime fandoms. I think it's only used in fandoms with number abbreviations (because it's like math, where you'd say 'two multiplied by five equals ten')
A lot of anime pairings also use condensed names, so there's no 'x' or '+.' (Series titles can also do this, like TeniPuri for Prince of Tennis.)
Re:
Tbat makes a lot of sense. And now I'm picturing some complicated system where you have to solve quadratic equations in order to find out who the story is about.

Gah.

I rarely pronounce the '/' sign.. being 'MulderKrycek' or 'ScullyKrycek' *laughs* but in anime I think it's definitely '1 by 2'.
But I also think it depends who you're talking to. "I read a really good ScullyHolly last night" but for sake of clarity I might pronounce the slash sign. Which really goes against everything my 5th grade teacher taught me. *grin* "Young lady, it is *not* 'and slash or'!"
Now there's an interesting pairing. And/Or. Really opposite sorta fellas.
*walks away slowly*
Re:
Oh, I hate hate hate all smooshed names. They sound so silly half the time and so cryptic the rest.

I think you were away too long. *g*
