Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho!
I think seeing Pirates for the third time pushed me from "What a cool movie!" to "Pirates are my life!" I expect it will run its course quite soon and, anyhow, it's something to do while I wait for Stargate S3 to arrive.
I'm sure most of these links have made it around LJ already, but I wasn't paying attention then. *g*
A Pirate's Life for Me: lyrics | mp3 ( 500 k, right-click to save -- I'll probably take the mp3 down after a week or so.)
Your pirate name. -- mine is Mad Mary Bonny.
Pirate flags -- and other pirate facts
I'm also trying to make a Pirate Mix CD. I only have a few songs on my playlist so far:
- A Pirate's Life for Me
- Barrett's Privateers
- The Last Saskatchewan Pirate
- What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor

We used to sing this at school.
Also, I think the Pogues did some shanties, given that the title of one of their albums was "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash"

My main recs, other than those already mentioned, are Great Big Sea's "The Old Black Rum" and "Jack Hinks." (The latter, especially, could almost have been written about PotC if only Sparrow fit in place of Hinks: "he's a sea-farin', sail-makin', gamblin', caperin', rum-drinkin' hero...") I like the live versions from the album Road Rage for both of those.
You might also be able to turn up an mp3 of a song called "A Pirate I Was Meant To Be" from the computer game The Curse of Monkey Island, which is great fun.
And finally, don't neglect "The Pirates That Don't Do Anything." A band called Relient K does a fine cover of it that I like better than the original.
