We're still really bad eggs

Meant to write tonight. Went out and saw PotC again instead. I want to watch Captain Jack Sparrow's marvellous entrance again and again and again.

Also, I've become quite enamoured of Commodore Norrington. He's not a bad guy, he's quite good at what he does, and he's lovely. Now that both he and Jack are at loose ends... I must say, Jack/Norrington bears thinking of. Or even some Jack/Gillette.

(And instead of usefully answering email and LJ comments or writing drabbles or such, I've just spent an hour making this icon. I have to keep going back and forth between the Gimp and Graphic Converter and it's such a pain.)

In other news, everyone should go and read[livejournal.com profile] destina's post on fanfic writers and public critique.

For the record, I have no problem whatsoever with people critiquing my fic, in private or public. I'm not sensitive about it. OK, except for you people who told me that my badfic wasn't bad enough -- you made me cry. But everyone else should feel free to go ahead.

I think that the best possible thing you could focus on right now would be to produce some PotC fic, of any pairing. At all.

I am desperate. Oh yes.

I agree with you absolutely about Jack Sparrow's entrance. And everything else. Oh yes, Jack.

Norrington too.

Re fic crititiquing: I figure, if a writer puts their fic out in public, good or bad, the writer takes the consequences, good or bad. The writer has two choices if the work is harshly criticized: to whimper and look foolish, or take it in stride. It's the writer's choice.

Self-criticism is another matter, but few people do it in public.

Just Not Done.

Yes. And sometimes I feel dishonest because I say nothing - even for stories I liked but might like to discuss in terms of analysis. But it seems to be necessary, as I have seen mailing lists and fandoms tear apart over these issues.

No, we can't review, except in private, and it's a pity.

I was quite taken with Norrington the first time around. In a role that could have descended to cliched - "fiance keeps true love apart" with evil sneering and the like - he instead had a quiet dignity.

It didn't hurt that he reminded me of my darling Horatio.

I agree except for that Horatio part because I've never actually seen it. The end of that movie went up ten pegs in my book because of how Norrington handled it.

He handled with situation with a lot of grace. Norrington is the one I'd like to have my way with.

Oh, please write Norrington fic.

*has mad crush on him*
