Three is the magic number

Three things:

1. Drabble for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 Pensieve challenge: Like the First Time

2. About that body mod link I posted last night -- I should have been more clear -- it's not real, check the posting date at the bottom of the page. But there are plenty of real squicky body mod links up at this kuo5hin article if that's your thing. I'm looking forward to reading the trepannation info.

3. In regard to Stargate SG-1, I have crossed the Rubicon. I was going to wait until after I watched S3 to jump into fandom, but it's on order and I don't think I can wait.

Don't worry about spoiling me -- I can't expect to jump into the fandom now and participate yet remain a blushing virgin.

So, link me your links, rec me your fics, play me your vids. What lists should I join? What pairings should I ship? What fic should I write?

Are there secret signals I need to learn? Some sort of initiation? Hazing? BNFs I should suck up to?

Hmm, if I go through the story I'm writing and change "Sirius" to "Jack" and "Lucius" to "Heru-ur" and "Remus" to "Daniel" that will work...

Kidding! KIDDING! Still writing HP. I'm as obsessed as ever I was. But I am a woman of many fandoms and there's always room for one more.

There are some *outstanding* Stargate vids on the JKL Vidders tape. I believe you can find ordering info in the Vidder files, or possibly in the archived messages.

I totally agree with Laura about the JKL tape. They are outstanding. Destina will be along shortly to show you where the link to her and Carol's vids are. Solvi also makes some energetic vids.

Lists (all on yahoogroups):
hotjacklist: slash list of all pairings of Jack. Good discussion.
sgfic: stories of all genres. Seems to be the main list like that.
Gateway: major slash list. Mostly stories, little discussion.
SG1HC - Hurt/Comfort list if you're into that. Sometimes they have good conversation, but mostly it's just babble.
SG1-L - list for all genres where criticism is allowed. Rather quiet now.

Rec Lists: Destina's, Anna's, Sandy's.

Pairings you should write:
Jack/Teal'c. Theirloveissopure and don't let anyone else try to sell you on that Teal'c/Daniel baloney.
Jack/Daniel, but their love is a given. *g*
Jack/Janet

Stories you should write:
Fuck or die.

I recommending changing the face of SG fandom and becoming your own BNF.

Yay!

Woo-hoo! *puts on the pimp hat* I agree with everything Barkley said, so amen to all of that.

The JKL Stargate vids are indeed awesome. I also rec Carol's SG vids, because I love 'em. Email me (destina at livejournal dot com), if you'd like password for the site:

Pairings: I cannot *wait* to see you bring that quirky point of view of yours to any pairing involving Teal'c and either Jack or Daniel. *g* But that aside, I'm always rooting for Jack/Daniel.

As for the BNFs...eh, fuggedaboudit. This is a highly factionalized fandom with cliques and groups and whatnot, and I recommend you avoid the hell out of it because it can be seriously joy-killing. The most fun I have, I have with the SG fen on LJ. People here don't seem to mind a mix of mindless and shallow/deep and meta, and diversity is well-tolerated.

Another one enters the SGC and doesn't come out. This was me last October. The love is deeply entrenched now. The first SG-1 story I read, and still probably my favorite, is Anna's The Other Half (http://www.drizzle.com/~eliade/sg_other_half.html). After that, I discovered Versaphile and started reading the recommended stories there by season. That kept me occupied for a couple of months.

Another favorite: Anais' Dr. Jackson's Diary (http://www.versaphile.com/anais/January.shtml). Start with January and work your way through the year. I laughed so hard I almost had an asthma attack.

Woohoo! Welcome in the fandom. :) I so can't wait reading you :)

Welcome to the fandom! I'll put a big ditto on what everyone else has said, though I would be remiss if I failed to point out [livejournal.com profile] barkley's glaring typo. when she wrote Jack/Teal'c, what she really meant was *Daniel*/Teal'c. You've got to trust me on this.

::looks shifty::

Um...if she asks, don't tell her I said that, 'kay? She gets touchy when someone mentions the Jacklexia. ;-)

As for pairings, well, there are more than you can shake a stick at. Obviously, J/D is the big one, but there is also the lovely Daniel/Teal'c, Daniel/Paul, and, OC, *the* OTP of the fandom, Jack/Thor. don't let his lack of obvious genitalia fool you; Thor really is an Asgard love god and he is most assuredly hot for Jack's bod.

If you're looking for pretty things to gawk at and drool over there is, OC, X's wonderful artwork (http://www.tenebris.org/x_art/index.html)
and the exquisite collages (http://www.lerefuge.ca/) by thehand of the talented [livejournal.com profile] lerefuge.

As for the BNF, most of us just ignore them. Happily they tend to stay together in their own little corner and hold court leaving the rest of us to have fun and enjoy the fandom without their diva-ish antics.

Welcome to SG fandom, Hal. Hurry up and read and write, write, write. This fandom is in dire need of more good writers. It's slim pickings out there. I can't think of any stories that haven't already been recced except for anything by Katherine Harkins, especially Both Sides Now, which is one of the finest post-Meridian stories out there.
