The boy's off at GenCon and I have the place to myself so I'm indulging in some social isolation, which is why I haven't been posting this week. So, I'll try to throw in a bit of everything.

ObHP: Having just been to the optometrist, I've been wondering why wizards can't magically fix their vision, as they seem to be able to do most anything else. And where do wizards get their glasses? Are they special magic glasses? I know Harry's aren't, but Percy wears glasses too.

Maybe magic wizard glasses automatically change as your eyes change so you never have to get a new prescription.

ObFic: Was Blind But Now, Mulder/Krycek drabble for slash100. The challenge was Hunter/Prey but I slid off more towards Seeking & Finding. Also, the title is oddly pretentious.

ObStargate: I have been watching, watching, watching. I've finished S1 and am well into S2. I think I've watched about 15 eps over three days.

I LOVE THIS SHOW! And I think I'm in love with Jack, which I completely did not expect. It's rare that I like the main character of a show, let alone get all hot and bothered for him or her. It's the snark. The only thing hotter than snark is sarcasm.

And the Jack/Daniel hug at the end of The Serpent's Lair made me all melty. No manly handshake first, just full-on hug. Jack's hands on Daniel's back. Then one hand up behind Daniel's head. Then both hands on Daniel's face. Guh.

I'm not sure I'm quite ready to dive into fic yet, but I've got to know: is there any decent femslash about Sam and Dr Fraiser? And any hot sex of any persuasion involving Horus?

ObRant: Hmm, I'm not usually a "rant in public" person. But here goes: I really hate it when people rant for the sake of ranting. On one of my mailing lists, someone posted a big rant about some character thing, then when someone called her on it, said she was just expressing herself in "a rant-type format". So, apparently there's a whole format now.

ObReading: Sharpe, Sharpe, and more Sharpe. What I'll do once I run out, I'm not sure. Hornblower, maybe?

ObMeta: There is no spoon.

ObBoringPersonalShit: I don't usually post this stuff either. Hrm. I'm getting some new glasses that I think look pretty cool. I had pizza and beer for supper. Life is good.

I'm continually tickled by the way you are falling deeper into the fathomless pit of Stargate love. *g* I didn't expect to like Jack, either - I'm totally *not* an RDA fan - but Jack ended up to be my favorite character. :-)

There's one on my recs page, These Thoughts by Julian Lee; it's based around a fourth season ep, but it's the only Janet/Sam piece that has grabbed me thus far. (There are other pieces out there, I'm sure, but I'm not much into femslash.) I can't seem to get into my recs page to retrive the URL at the moment, so:

Mmm, love the drabble. It captures the tension I always saw in the show and its slash--say what you will about M/K or M/Sk, Scully will always come first for Mulder. And with Scully, the problem was that Samantha would always come first.

Thanks, hon. :) And you're right about Mulder's hierarchical priorities, the poor fucked-up boy. But his obsession was what made him interesting.

I think Jack works for me because he's the leader, but he's not the hero. The hero is the *team*, all of them together. I like that.

re: wizard eyewear

Maybe they can't fix things like bad vision with magic. Perhaps things that are due to genes rather than infection/desease they can't fix with magic. I mean, if they could, wouldn't everyone be really hot? So maybe there are only temp solutions to things like hearing loss and bad vision, and so some wizards just choose not to worry about those useless spells most of the time and just wear glasses.

Good thought. Or maybe the magic cure is like laser surgery and it doesn't always work so well. *g*

I really should learn not to think about this stuff because I only get frustrated that it doesn't make more sense. You'd think the X-Files would have taught me that, at least.

Yeah, and where do wizards get their: soap, toothpaste, vegetables, clothes, shoes, bras, yarn, furniture, building materials to make houses, etc.? It doesn't seem like there are enough wizards that they could have sufficient manufacturing and retail shops to supply all their own needs, yet wizards like the Weasleys act as if they have never done business with a Muggle. Are there special Muggle liaison wizards who act as vendors, buying items and reselling them to wizard shop owners?

Glasses, or anything else that needs to be individually fitted, would be a bit more difficult.

I listened to the first few Hornblower books on tape while driving to work, and found them quite entertaining. And in Lieutenant Horblower, a few moments were so slashy I sqealed and rewound to listen to again.

I really should just stop stop stop trying to make the HPverse make sense, but sometimes I have to work it out in order to write about it.
