Oh, better far to live and die under the brave black flag I fly, than play a sanctimonious part with
So, Pirates of the Caribbean...
"I won't be gone long Ginny." Said the dashing Captain Potter to the woman before him.
"But Harry, you promised..."
"I know my love," He said, affectionately stroking her cheek. "I know. But it is my duty to go and capture those scurvy, flea bitten dogs of the sea. But I promise you, as soon as I return, we will be married."
"You've been saying that for years, Harry. I'm beginning to wonder if you want to marry me at all."
Wait, that was the badfic I was reading last weekend.
Pirates was the summer movie I was hoping Charlie's Angels would be. Swash, buckles, and lots of pirates. Kiera was pretty. Orlando was prettier. But Johnny Depp was the prettiest of all and I don't think anyone else could have got away with that tipsy swagger. He makes the movie. Without him, it would be flat.
The Will-Sparrow sword fight was so fun, all the fight scenes were, really. It's like watching a musical, the choreography is lovely.
Pirates in drag, Geoffrey Rush, fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles ... Johnny Depp making love to the ship, Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp...
Yeah, I liked it. Yeah, I'm going back.

He's entirely the reason why I'm writing Pirates of the Caribbean slash right now.
Well, not entirely. I am a sekrit history nerd, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to write a story in a fandom where I can actually talk abut grog, hard-tack, and chain shot. But I certainly wouldn't have thought to write anything had Johnny Depp not been so fabulous and swishy.

This movie never would have worked if Johnny Depp had played it straight. Gay pirates forever!

Where pirates all are well-to-do;
But I'll be true to the song I sing,
And live and die a Pirate King.
Dude. This movie made me laugh like nothing has in a long time. I am all about the swish-buckling.
Depp deserves an Oscar, and I'm not being facetious. It's a shame they don't look at comedic performances the way they do the dramatic stuff. That was one *hell* of an indelible character he created. Just super work. I've seen it twice now, and I'll probably go again.
Oddly, being the huge slash fan I am, I didn't really see him as gay so much as totally mad in an eccentric way. The only hint of slash I got was at the end with that one great slashy line from Will Turner. :) But hey, we've worked with less. ;) And they're too beautiful to pass up, if I may shallowly say so.
MONKEY!

And "swishbuckling"! Hee! now *that* should go on an icon.

It's... in-progress. And... sort of Good Omens-ish, in a gay pirate way. It might work brilliantly, or it might suck beyond the telling. We'll see!
This movie never would have worked if Johnny Depp had played it straight.
Oh, lord, it would've been... um, entirely dull, I think. I mean, his quirky character *makes* everything fun!

Uh - you'll be advertising this when it's done?

Oh sure! I may be advertising it with the caveat that it *sucks*, but I'll post it when I'm done. Heh.

Squeeing for a sequel...
