Somewhere beyond the sea

Went to see Finding Nemo today. What an utterly charming movie. The characters were, well, I was going to say "well-drawn", but I'll go with "vivid" instead. Marlin (Albert Brooks), Nemo's father, and Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), Marlin's forgetful sidekick, are funny and sympathetic.

Lots of other great characters: Bruce the shark, Crush the sea turtle, Nigel the pelican. But my favourite was Gill, a rather dark and sombre fish voiced by Willem Dafoe. He had presence. He had gravitas. He had sex appeal. As soon as he swam onto the screen, I was lost.

Is it so wrong to lust after a cartoon fish?

Moving right along...

Visually, this movie was absolutely stunning. I'd like to see it again, just to look at it. The richness and grace of the undersea world made me think of Luc Besson's Atlantis.

All this and there were Monty Python references too. It was a good afternoon.

Also: you know you're a geek when you're watching a Pixar short and the credits thank Steve Jobs and you yell out "Steve!"

was going through my memory

καλοσ = good, brave, beautiful...

freshman greek was so long ago...

now I'm thinking κοσμοσ = origin, principle, order, starting point...

I have forgotten all my lovely hard earned participles and can only thinly remember how to conjugate λυω

*irritated by the fact that code for regular sigma is not working and only final sigmas are*
