Everyone I know goes away in the end

While I was at the LotR double feature Saturday night, I started thinking about Elrond. And I felt sorry for him.

He really has a problem with people leaving him. First, his parents take off in the ship and end up sailing over the Earth. Then, his brother chooses mortality. Then his wife is tormented by orcs (which I read as raped) and goes over the sea to recover. Then his daughter wants to be mortal. And in the end, so do his sons.

AFAIK, the only one he's reunited with is his wife. So, no wonder Elrond seems cranky sometimes. He has abandonment issues.

Aparently it is time for me to re-read the Silmarillion and all the appendices to LoTR.

I do not rememember Elros and Ellrohir choosing to be mortal. I wish they weren't such damn shadowy characters in LotR.
