Daniel Pinkwater's new novel serialized on the web.

The Neddiad. A new chapter every Tuesday.

Daniel Pinkwater has been a huge influence on me, on my writing and on my life. I was in junior high when I first read Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars and from that and his other books, I learned that it's okay, and even good, to be weird. And it's okay to write weird stuff too.

Other faves include:

* Lizard Music
* The Snarkout Boys and the Avacado of Death (I even wrote a tiny piece of Rat fic)
* The Last Guru
* Young Adult Novel (strangely, I've never written a Kevin Shapiro story of my own)

Do you love Pinkwater as I do?

He stretched my brain, but my favorites remain Sturgeon and the Stainless Steel Rat man, Harrison.

I'll be honest: I don't really remember Alan Mendelsohn or Lizard Music, but I do remember loving them almost painfully.

Yay! Alan Mendelsohn was my favorite book when I was growing up, and between Pinkwater and Monty Python, my sense of humor grew into the twisted, twisted thing it it today.

I do! I do!

I remember I even loved him so much that I searched out books by his wife, which were not funny, but they *were* about horses, so I wasn't about to complain!

I love Pinkwater muchly. Few other YA books seemed to realistically capture certain aspects of being "unpopular," and he's so *interesting*. But my favorite works of his were his more silly ones. Uncle Borgel is probably my favorite of all, though I love his picture books with their crude drawings (Mozart tracks down a muffin thief might be the best I've gotten my hands on so far).

Thanks for the link!!

Heh, I remember most of those. Pinkwater is pretty awesome. I could never get past the beginning of The Snarkout Boys... but I liked nearly everything else I could find. The ones I remember best are probably the Magic Moscow books (there were a couple but I don't remember their actual titles) and the one about the blue moose and the guy with a restaurant...(I suppose this pretty effectively dates my reading of them as those ones are rather more for even younger kids. :D) Young Adult Novel and Alan Mendelsohn were also pretty good although they confused me a lot.

Heh, that's true. (I only have 5 Novels, at one point (a rather long time ago, to be fair) I had the one about the blue moose but I do not know where it went.)
