What if?
The only thing more fun than talking about Prince of Tennis on LJ is talking about Prince of Tennis in bed late at night. We discussed what would have happened if Ryoma had gone to one of the other schools instead of Seigaku.
Fudomine: We really weren't sure how this would work out. Fudomine is so much a cult of personality around Tachibana, coming from a shared experience, which of course Ryoma didn't share in. I think he would have been at odds with them for quite some time.
Hyotei: Ryoma gets to challenge and challenge and challenge as he works his way up through the ranks. Atobe is amused by him, but wary, as he needs to make sure Ryoma won't surpass him. This is the one I would most like to see.
St Rudolph: Mizuki is a control freak. Ryoma doesn't like to be controlled. Mizuki ends up humiliated and the tenor of the whole team changes. Yuuta is grouchy.
Yamabuki: Akutsu and Ryoma start a gang. Dan Taichi gets a pompadour.
Hanamura-sensei's School for Gifted Youngsters Jyosei Shonan: Ryoma's mutant powers manifest (he can remotely control any ball-like object) and he joins their team, fighting crime by night, playing tennis by day.
Rokkaku: Ryoma fits in completely, better even than at Seigaku. He and Kentarou become rivals and play each other every available minute of the day.
Rikkai: Ryoma doesn't make the Regulars.
That was as far as we got before the Boy hared off on his Year Two AU where Momo transfers to Fudomine and Kirihara transfers to Seigaku and becomes buchou. (He's obsesssed with this Kirihara-buchou thing.) We always end up arguing over this one. Because Kirihara-buchou? Come on!

Ooooooh plot bunny. XD *giggles* Ryoma's would-be reaction to Tachibana's hands-on, rough-and-tumble type of leadership amuses me.
>>I think he would have been at odds with them for quite some time.
*nods nods* I can practically see Kamio yelling at him for being so rude. XD Of course, Kamio yells at everything so it's not much of a stretch, but... er. Yeah. The running conversations with Shinji would be amusing, too. ^___^ (Juries out on whether or not Tachibana would make him run laps, though. -_-;;)

*giggles* Mmm, think of all the crack! And the fluff! And the fluffy!crack. I'd kill to see that...
*is a rokkaku fangirl*

I'd love to see that. :)
Rokkaku is a ton of fun. They're all so weird!

I die of cute.
Year Two AU where Momo transfers to Fudomine and Kirihara transfers to Seigaku and becomes buchou
Does this lead to Kirihara/Kaidou?
Akutsu and Ryoma start a gang. Dan Taichi gets a pompadour.

Why is there none in fandom...
Sorry for rudely butting in like this, but desperation just pushes me that far. (._.)

I wonder how Akutsu and Ryoma would get together. They'd probably have this long courtship that involved them snarking at each other and Akutsu threatening Ryoma and Ryoma pretending not to care.
no subject
And yes!! Tezuka would defintely win first match -- I don't have any doubts. But I think Akutsu is like Ryoma in that he'd get better and better. Imagine if Akutsu went to Seigaku, too -- would he pwn most of the regulars and would Tezuka ask him to be a pillar?? Would he raise him to be good and love and respect tennis?
I really should be going to bed now, lol, sorry for the rambling. XD

Yeah, I think Ryoma and Akutsu are very similar. When they play, it's like Ryoma is seeing a possible path for him but Tezuka saves him from it.

And then Akutsu would wait for Tezuka after school and kick his ass. Mmm.
I wonder at Akutsu and Tezuka interaction especially with that line in episode 145, in which Akutsu played against Kevin, and Akutsu says to Tezuka, "As usual, you're doing the 'honor student' act." I wonder where that "As usual" is coming from? As if alluding to some sort of familiarity and Akutsu knowing Tezuka beyond name. It's probably just something with the translation-subs, but it's just too fun reading into the possibilities.
It really is a bit scary how easy it is to imagine Ryoma getting along with Akutsu (after the initial clash). Akutsu even does some voluntary mentoring (!)in the anime (no matter that I found it a bit OOC of him), after Ryoma had lost so badly to Sanada. How easy Akutsu might have brought Ryoma to the dark side then, with Tezuka being away...
AkuRyoTezu zomg. *___*
Re: AkuRyoTezu zomg. *___*
Oh. My. God. I'm going to be thinking about that all night now.
Re: AkuRyoTezu zomg. *___*
I'll be reading that fic if/when you post it. *nod*

*snerks* I really can't see Kirihara as captain at Seigaku, unless he'd been there from the start. On the other hand, I /can/ see him as captain of Rikkai, next year, which could be /extremely/ entertaining if Ryouma was on that team.
*considers* And, you know, I kind of think Ryouma would have made the Regulars at Rikkai. Because they're missing an alternate, while Yukimura is gone, and he would be, theoretically, out of commission all this season. And I can see Ryouma and Akaya going at it tooth and nail over who gets to be the regular Regular, and I can see Ryouma actually putting effort into it because his pride has been stung by, possibly, more than one person that he can't beat right off the bat being on that team. It would make for a very different developmental curve, though.

Maybe eventually, but I don't think it would be the sure thing it was at Seigaku. I'd love to see him trying. You're right -- his pride would be on the line there. I wonder if he'd turn out more like Sanada that way.

AHAHA!! That would be interesting to see. If Echizen did go to another school, I would love to see the tournament matches against Seigaku. *o* And even though we'd see significantly less of Seigaku (nuuuuu*cries*), it'd be interesting to see more of... St. Rudolph or Rikkaidai or etc. *nods*

Always.
Akutsu and Ryoma start a gang. Dan Taichi gets a pompadour.
He he. That would kick ass. But why is it that gang members always have to get a girly hairstyle to look tough?

Does the Boy write? The Boy should write. He's already deep into the crack and all.

LOL poor Ryoma. He'd become part of Rikkaidai's version of Horio and the gang who give commentry on the sidelines, although he'd probably be a lot less enthusiastic than they are.

Kirihara as buchou would kill most of the ichinensei and co. before practice was over and the rest of the regulars would run to Momo and foment an uprising (sort of like Fudomine, only I can't imagine Ryuzaki ever agreeing to Kirihara becoming buchou in the first place).
... And Rikkai? Ryoma makes the regulars, but only after a lot of angst and sport manga inspiration. (And is forced to submit to Yukimura's Smiling Reign That is Solid Like Iron.) Or he moves back to the States.

Yukimura is frightening and weird. I can't wait to see him play.
no subject
I know! I want to see Yukimura play- would he be more like Fuji, with the whole I-don't-play-my-full-strength-unless-necessary,
or is he like the rest of Rikkai- obscenely talented and always wins effortlessly?
I lean towards the Fuji, because a part of me thinks that he and Yukimura are related.

Rikkai: Ryoma doesn't make the Regulars.
:DDD Well, not until second or third year, anyway. But would this spur him on or would it hold him back? Sometimes he seems like he desperately needs to be Special, but other times he seems fine as long as he gets to play strong players. (Although of course
JesusYukimura would make him feel special anyway, it just wouldn't be the same without being First Year Regular & Captain's Favourite.)Kirihara-buchou would be like having a captaining mix of Yamato, Akutsu (if he cared), and Mizuki. It would be scary, but it'd probably whip the kids who don't mysteriously disappear into shape. I approve!

Hee! Thinning the herd.

I suffered a _lot_ when Sanada lost to Ryouma during Kantou and...
Rikkai: Ryoma doesn't make the Regulars.
this made me laugh so hard. Not because it was funny, just... because.
It was so good for my soul, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
(I don't know, I usually like Ryouma, but... well.)
The rest is also awesome. I would _so_ love to see Kirihara-buchou. Hm. Probably we'll see him as Rikkai Dai's buchou in the end of Zenkoku as kind of an... omake...? ^^
*is soo not able to say something decent*
