PoT Fic: Wheel (Kaidoh, Inui, Momoshiro)
Birthday fic #2. Tennis boys, of course.
This is an odd piece, which I spent a lot longer on than the word-count would suggest.
Wheel by Halrloprillalar
Prince of Tennis, Inui, Kaidoh, Momoshiro, 330 words, PG13.
Kaidoh's birthday.
Thanks to

"Hey, Mamushi." Momoshiro caught Kaidoh's sleeve. "Here."
Kaidoh pulled away. "What do you want?"
"It's your birthday, right? I have something for you." Momoshiro flashed a big dumb grin.
"Is this a trick?"
"Jeez! Just take it." Momoshiro put something into Kaidoh's hand.
It was an orange. Round, smooth, and, well, orange. "It's an orange," Kaidoh said.
"I kept it all day without eating it." Momoshiro slung his bag over his shoulder. "I'll crush you at practice today."
+
"This is for you." Inui slid a package across the table.
It took a minute for Kaidoh to get through the layers of bag and wrapping and tissue. Inside he found a watch, a sports watch.
"It's a heart-rate monitor." Inui took Kaidoh's hand and fastened it around his wrist.
Kaidoh blushed and hoped no one in the café could see Inui's fingers brushing his arm. "Thank you, senpai."
"Finish your cake," Inui said.
+
They kissed until the sweetness of the icing was gone. Inui moved his mouth down Kaidoh's jaw, his throat, his shoulder where the buttons of his shirt were open.
"Don't leave a mark," Kaidoh said, and felt Inui's tongue against his skin.
"Are you staying over on Saturday?" Inui said.
Kaidoh put his arms around Inui and pulled him down, kissing him again and again, hands sliding up under his shirt. The monitor went off and scared them both.
+
Kaidoh put his homework away in his bag. He found the orange at the very bottom.
It was heavy in his hand, perfectly ripe and as bright as the reflectors he wore when he ran in the dark.
"I'll beat you tomorrow," he said, louder than he meant to, alone in his room.
He peeled the orange carefully over a sheet of paper, stripping away the strings of pith. He ate it in sections and licked the juice from his fingers.
When he woke in the morning, he could still smell the fragrance in the air.

You know, you're not supposed to give everyone else fic for your birthday. Not that I'm complaining. :D Happy birthday!

Oh, Momo, sometimes I just... LOVE YOU! *snuggles him so much* This is so wonderfully written. I like to see this type of relationship between Momo and Kaidoh more often. And of course the InuKai is the best without saying anything. *giggles muchly at the heart rate monitor* So Inui and yet I don't think he predicted that it would go off on such a... kinda-non-strenuous activity. ^_______^
Orange smells stay on your fingers for a long time. >.o

Good thing I don't have to. *g*

Also, the heart rate monitor going off was PERFECT. Perfect blend of hot and funny, and Kaidoh's little "don't leave a mark!" which you know has been perfected over previous disasters. I like the comfort in Kaidoh and Inui's physical relationship as much as I like the comfort in Kaidoh and Momo's rivalry.
and aww, Momo thinks he's so clever! and food is love *g*

God, I love them all.

*giggles* I love how you write Momo, I really do. XD
*hugs* And you know I love your InuKai... *happy sigh* This was so awesome. Thank you. :D

I'm curious -- why did you call it "Wheel"? Is it because their affections roll seamlessly from one to the other, or is there another interpretation?

I see it so clearly when they play doubles. IK doubles is based on mutual trust, something that Inui has worked hard to build and that they've developed through training together.
MK doubles is based on instinct. They already trust each other completely. When Kaidoh gets upset, it's Momo who calms him down. They are completely in sync, even when they're yelling at each other.
I'm not sure if Inui completely sees this, but I think he senses it. It makes me so sad for him.
I tried to show this in 300 as well. I don't think Inui considers Momo a serious rival for Kaidoh's affection, but still he can't help but be jealous of the connection between them.
"Wheel" refers to the circular structure of the piece and, as you say, the roll of Kaidoh's affection between the two of them and back again. And I also had the lyric in my head: "Some say the heart is just like a wheel. When you bend it you can't mend it." Lots of things. :)

That image made me laugh so much. They're such boys. XD

The lead girl falls in love w/ a guy albeit their personalities, social status, etc were very different. And there's her best friend who, in many ways are perfect for her, but could not be together with the girl no matter what. The bf pursues the girl but in the end, they're not meant to be..
I guess, that how I picture these three... er, it's obvious I'm biased about this (then what the heck w/ the explanation?!) ..I ship Inui only to Kaidoh and vice versa ..and I ship Momoshiro w/ Ryoma just because XD -_-;;;
