We know that Momo *thinks* Ryoma was playing right-handed to handicap himself because of Momo's ankle. But we don't actually know Ryoma's motivation. Ryoma certainly isn't deliberately mean to people who haven't earned it, but I'm not sure he's so considerate at this point in the canon. He does grow a lot along the way, though.
