Yuletide
I have duly signed up. This year, I reduced the number of fandoms I said I would write for, which was probably the best idea. Now they're all ones that I think would be really, really cool to write.
One fandom I offer every year and hope hope hope that that's the one I'll be assigned. So far, no luck. I suppose I could just go ahead and write something for it anyhow, but that's just not the same somehow. Maybe this year!
Even more than that, though, I hope for one thing before this is all over: I really want to know who requested Okane ga Nai fic. And just what they asked for. Maybe: Kanou and Ayase go to Disneyland. No angst please!
Christ, maybe I should redo my request and ask for that myself, just to see what would happen.
In other news, it is nearly impossible to analyse the Tezuka-Atobe match for Tezuka/Ryoma and Tezuka/Oishi implications because of all the Tezuka/Atobe splashing around. Actually, during that match, everyone is in love with Tezuka, except for maybe Ohtori.
And in the manga version, when everyone is gathered to watch, Tezuka looks up into the stands and thinks, Sanada...
Hmm.

So true XDDD

It is true! By which I mean it really happens, it's not just funny commentary from me. I wonder if it ties into the recent references that both Sanada and Yukimura knew Tezuka prior to middle school. I'm really hoping for a Junior Tennis Flashback some time.

aldjfk;lj it is SO HARD TO IGNORE THAT ICON. But what I am really trying to say is, yes, I think it probably does, because it's always seemed to me that the three of them had some sort of understanding going.
What I really wonder is what level of respect Tezuka has for Sanada, because on the one hand, it's always come across as high (or, er, at least, serious)--and on the other hand, woah with the hitting people thing that Sanada has, and I can't really see Tezuka being down with that, for obvious reasons.
Then again, I sort of hate Rikkai in the manga, and I think I'm pretty much a lonely voice of one in that respect, so maybe it's not a relevant question--but it's still one that sticks with me.

In the manga, Sanada hits Jackal for not stopping the Ryoma/Kirihara match. (Thank goodness he didn't! That's the second-best match in the series.) After Yanagi loses to Inui, he asks that Sanada hit him, to set an example, but Kirihara intervenes. After Kirihara loses, he also asks to be hit, but Sanada doesn't do it.
I think the only other hit we see in the manga is Oishi losing it and hitting Eiji.
In the anime, IIRC, beside the Oishi incident, the only other hit we see (beating up aside) is Tezuka hitting Ryoma when he refuses to leave the game with Kevin. Which seems deliberate and which has the desired effect.
There's a point in the anime when the ichinen trio are going on about some tragedy -- either Tezuka leaving or Momo being off the regulars -- and Oishi tells them off for it. When he leaves, Horio says he thought they were going to get smacked for sure. One of the K boys says that Oishi is too nice, but if it were Kaidoh-senpai... Kaidoh is lurking nearby and yells at them, but doesn't hit them either.
And I think Horio may have said something early on in the series, about expecting to get smacked by Kaidoh.
So, it's clearly not something unexpected, even if it's not usually done.
I've seen a bit of it in other anime as well.

It's really rather sweet.

(I forget who tries to remove him forcibly from the coach's bench...but I remember finding it hi-larious that anyone thought they could make Ryoma do something he didn't want to.)

It was Eiji and Momo that tried to get Ryoma off the bench. In the anime, he puts up a huge fuss! In the manga, they kind of smack him a bit, but it doesn't get to an all-out struggle.
