I met your children. What did you tell them?

iTunes has a new and improved way to take my money: music videos. Oh, look at them all, so shiny and colourful and only two dollars and twenty-nine cents each.

I want. My itchy mouse finger is about to click on Thriller and Billie Jean and Bad. Like a Virgin and Papa Don't Preach. Where the Streets Have No Name and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

In short, I want all the videos from back in the day when we'd rush home from school to watch -- was it Video Singles with Samantha Taylor? -- and then Good Rockin' Tonight on Fridays. I want Michael Jackson and Boy George and Madonna. I want the 80s.

My god, I hope they put up Take On Me. That was brilliant.

What videos would you most like to get your hands on?

Guns n Roses - You Could Be Mine for the single handed shot gun pumping Sarah Connor.

And, yeah, Take On Me with the pencil drawings? Yeah!

If limited to the 80s, I'm thinking Take on me would be it... just LOVED that video and song. Another one would be Cyndi's Girls just wanna have fun, not for the video itself, but because she really is the epidome of a girl just having fun!

Outkast, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad). But I recorded most of my favs on VHS for free already, so it's kinda moot by now.

Because I am a complete dork: the Foo Fighters' video for "Walking After You", which was the Canon AU Mulder/Scully Porn Video. It wasn't a very popular video and disappeared soon after the first time I saw it.

'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry", to see Aimee Mann's scary 80s hair.

J-Pop videos!

YAY! You are an angel! An angel of music!

Fight the Future was the first movie I ever saw in a non-crappy movie theater with BIIIIG SPEAKERS that could blast you backward with the force of alien spaceships. Such nostalgia! I found a tiny but clear file of the video. It only works as moody strung-out Mulder/Scully USTy angst, really.

Take on Me was excellent!!! And I loved those shows, too. Still have some beta tapes with shows on them. LOL

Let's see...Thriller, The Sun Always Shines On Tv, Sledgehammer, Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Missionary Man, Every Breath You Take (Oh, wait I have that one), and several others of which I can't think of the names now. :D

[identity profile] merith.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god... thoughts of Sledgehammer fills my heart with dread. It was one of those songs that gets in your head and takes a load of dynamine to extract! And that video! oh man...

thanks for the ...memories.

*snicker*

I'll be nice and NOT sing it for you then. LOL

*hums theme song from The Smurfs*

Hunting High and Low was another good one, but I own a DVD with A-ha music videos anyway :)

Most pop culture passed me by, but occasionally, like a bungee jumper dipping into a river, I made contact with something and Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" was one of the somethings :-)

I can't even buy and download these things, but definitely: Cradle of Love by Billy Idol.

And I'd actively look forward to the day that I /can/ use iTunes if they offered Pop-Up Video videos. *misses Pop-Up Video rather a lot*

I learned so much useful information from Pop-Up Video! Like how analog clocks in picture ads are usually posed at 10:10 because it makes them look like they're smiling and happy. Awwww. There was a Buffy/Spike Pop-Up Fan Video to some inappropriate song that was very funny.

Venture Brothers icon love!

Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes." Loved that vid. He was so damned cute in his gay apparel. Isn't it about time for an 80s revival? And someone should package all those great 80s videos on DVD. I'd buy it.

Where the Streets Have No Name and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

your mouse finger has better impulse control than mine: i had both of these (as well as "with or without you") downloaded about thirty seconds (or however long it took my modem) after learning that it was possible.

and "take on me," oh man, that was brilliant. it may rival "where the streets have no name" for my favorite video (and, apparently, favorite way in which to show my age) of all time.

[identity profile] bookshop.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)

I HAVE TRIED ALL MY LIFE, ALL OF MY LIFE, TO SEE THE MUSIC VIDEO TO "TAKE ON ME" AND I NEVER HAVE. EVER. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE TAKE ON ME VIDEO. HOW CAN I CALL MYSELF A CHILD OF THE 80'S, HAL? HOW? :((

Take me oo~oooo~nnn

[identity profile] cellia.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
???? IT IS ONLY LIKE THE BEST VIDEO EVER. IT SEAMLESSLY MELDS BOTH COMICS AND CHEESY MUSIC INTO ONE GLORIOUS WHOLE.

[identity profile] histoirede.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like the video-clip of "Désenchantée" by Mylène Farmer... which is quite the equivalent of your list, but in French. Something that was at the top of the charts at a moment during the 80s and I'm sure that now maybe I could really get it XD

[identity profile] histoirede.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
The thing I don't get is why they would make it available only for a certain number of countries...

[identity profile] histoirede.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
... so very true ^^;

Oh, I forgot- Devendra Barnhart The Ribbon and Regina Spector Us. Check them out if you can.
