PoT manga questions

Got smacked upside the head last night with a story idea I'm going to try to get out before I leave for vac on Friday. (We'll see how that goes.) And I think it might work better with manga canon than anime canon, but I'm not up on the recent manga stuff. (That's a task for when I get back.)

1. What happened with the recent ranking matches and Oishi? I know there was something, but I was trying to avoid spoilers. Now I need to be spoiled. :)

2. Do we have any idea who the buchou and fukobuchou were when the present third-years were in second year? I've seen Tezuka-fukobuchou in a lot of fanfic, but I don't know if that's founded on any canon.

3. This is actually an anime question, but does anyone remember what episode (or even just story arc) it was where we saw Inui, I think in second year, taking Tezuka's data and then having a convo with Oishi about it? They talked about Oishi and Tezuka having a match.

4. Fanfic!Oishi always heads off to medical school. Is that just fanon or is it based on some canon ambition of his?

I think that's all. It's difficult when you suddenly have to write a character you haven't really focused on before this. Now I'm all unsure about details.

1. When they were about to have the ranking match, Oishi objected to having Tezuka back and challenged Tezuka, citing as reason if the team that got through Regional together is suddenly disrupted, it is not good for team morale, and that he couldn't allow anyone back on the team whose injury hasn't healed completely. Tezuka could not allow Oishi a single game, or he would not be allowed in the ranking match. Turns out Oishi's injury from before Hyoutei match hasn't healed completely. So Tezuka wins 6-0. Oishi later apologizes to him, saying he had to do it, and Tezuka says he understands. Do you want a link to the relevant translation?

2. Tezuka was vice-captain. Inui mentions this during Hyoutei match, I believe, that Seigaku's then-captain lost, but Tezuka, as vice-captain, won.

3. Doesn't strike a bell. At least, not a complete bell. A little more context?

4. Oishi's uncle is a doctor, the same one Tezuka goes to in manga/anime. Oishi's also the top student in his year.

If you want more specific references, let me know?

i can link you to chinese scanlations, if you can't find raws. ^^;;

the second year inui taking data on tezuka sounds a bit familiar, but i'm not sure about the oishi part? could it be before the match between (third year) tezuka and inui, where inui's bracelet fell off during the match (y'know, and he went all crazy and gave up on data-tennis)? :x

Nayama-san's journal (http://www.livejournal.com/users/nayama/20086.html) has both the translation and the link to raw, but I'm not sure if it works now or not. If you need the raw, let me know and I can send it over e-mail.

When you mentioned second year, I automatically thought about the June ranking match, when Oishi discusses how Inui's data tennis started to defeat Tezuka. Would that be a place to look?

They have started. Oishi's still in Seigaku uniform during the opening ceremony, but he's not playing, at least so far. I'm not too sure what happened with the ranking match, actually, as the later raws have not been translated yet.

The zip will be send momentarily; hopefully gmail won't act up.

I think he did mean that he couldn't allow Tezuka back with any kind of doubt lingering. Tezuka had to be 100 % back or not at all. Seigaku has just been through the entire Regional without Tezuka; for the Regulars to once again accept and trust him, I think they might need some assurance he really is back. Perhaps Oishi thought this and did it to demonstrate Tezuka is indeed back, and his strength is all there. Oishi is surprisingly sneaky that way, I've found, in the manga (referring to the manga chapter when Tezuka leaves).

...Internal politics. That's how I interpreted it. >.>

It's volume 19, chapter 160. If you don't have it, I can send it to you.

Sure. *smile* I like spoiling my Flist. A lot, when I get to know and love them well.

About four: this may not be helpful but there was a thing in one of those extra books (they are kind of canon but not anime or manga so I don't know if you'd care...) about future jobs for some of the characters. I don't actually remember Oishi's off-hand but it was translated and on someone's site/lj and maybe you can google it? now that you know it's out there...

That would be the Official Fanbooks (10.5 and 20.5), and yes, there is a fan-selection corner, where fans can choose what careers would be good for the characters. Technically, that isn't canon, unlike the rest of the official information provided by Konomi-sensei in the fanbooks.

Ohhhhh. I only saw it on someone's lj/site as part of the translation of one of them. I assumed it was as canon as the other bits. Thanks.
