So say we all.
Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod. Finally got to watch BSG 1.12 Kobol's Last Gleaming Pt 1. It killed me dead before the opening credits.
Could they have wound us up any tighter? The opening sequence was so well orchestrated and the music just drove it. Sharon with the gun in her mouth, the punch to Lee's gut, the look on Kara's face, Helo with the gun on Sharon. And the *music*.
Everyone is just so fucked up.
I wasn't looking forward to Apollo/Starbuck shippiness, but what they're doing really works for me. It would be hard to call it "shippy". I loved it when she punched him and he punched her back. But even more, I loved it when he made her salute, using his military position to gain power in their personal relationship. Just like Sharon did to Tyrell. "You're dismissed."
Yum.
And my heart is just bleeding for Sharon, both of her. I don't think there's going to be any redemption for her. She is what she was made, even if she hates it.
There's a real polarization now with the religion between the male and female authority figures. I'm not sure what to think of that. Though it seems realistic to me, based on my experience. I confess, I haven't been paying that much attention to the male and female roles on the show.
Only one more episode this season. How will I survive?

Mmm, dysfunctional relationships. I love it.

Mine too. I suppose we've also got Gaius on his Jesus kick and Cylon Ray (Leobold? I'm not sure how to spell his name) who talked a bit about God, but yes, it's a striking distinction, and I hope they don't do anything unwise with that division.

I've been thinking the same thing. Supposedly, there will be word on Februray 1 about whether or not the show has been picked up for another season, but even if it is, they still have to film it, write 7 more episodes (the first 6 scripts are apparently finished or at least blocked in), do all the post-production, yadda. That's months and months and *months* without any new shiny. How can they be so cruel!
*sob*

But now it is: A mindfuck is the best fuck.
Mmm, dysfunctional mindfuck.
If they don't rewnew this show, they are idiots.

Alas, this is Sci-Fi we're talking about and they've got a less than stellar track record on the making smart decisions front.
My fingers are crossed.

I love the Starbuck/Apollo relationship. It´s fucked up enough that you can´t throw in "silly misunderstanding solved and then they lived happily ever after", because it isn´t that kind of relationship. What with Apollo´s inferiority issues and Starbuck´s I´m a fuck up issues and the war and, and.. And, yeah, I just love that.
I confess, I haven't been paying that much attention to the male and female roles on the show.
I haven´t either, except to note that there doesn´t really seem to be much of a difference. They´re characters first and foremost. And the president´s priestess would probably traditionally be priest, and Starbuck´s screwup pilot, well, was a guy, so.

My OTP is still Starbuck/Tigh, but it's looking less and less likely all the time. *sigh*

I wasn't really expecting the shippiness to hit this season, and I wasn't sure how well they were going to handle it, but this really, really works for me. They're both so repressed and dysfunctional, and they have that awesome power dynamic which makes it so much fun. I adore their relationship, and at this point I trust Moore and company to take it a new direction without ruining what I love about it. Jamie and Katee are certainly acting the hell out of it.
The religious ideas were some of my favorite parts of the miniseries when it first aired, and I've always liked the way they weave the religion in as such a natural part of the universe. I hadn't noticed the female dominance of the religious angle, but of course, you're right. Interesting that Roslin went directly to Starbuck with her plan, rather than trying to convince Apollo, with whom she has a much closer relationship and greater influence.
What really entertains me, though? The fact that we finally have a fandom where the characters canonically say "Oh my gods." People should be writing fic just to take advantage of that.
I'm afraid that all poor Sharon can hope for at this point is a merciful end. It makes me so sad, but I hope that they don't wimp out on the inevitable ending.
Eeeeeee, I can't wait for the next episode! Except it's the last episode! And then probably a cliffhanger, and then the antsy wait for renewal news. Gah. Didn't we just do this?

I like how the religion is set up with polytheism vs monotheism. I'm not sure just which RL parallels we should be looking at yet, though.

Hee! You are so right.

And because of that, the sort-of shippiness didn't bother me much, even though I really don't want them to get together.
I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE FIRST SEVEN EPISODES ONLINE AND IT IS KILLING ME.
