I must be getting old. There's nothing on TV.

I used to watch a lot of shows, but most of them have ended (X-Files) or been cancelled (Firefly) or started to suck really hard (Andromeda).

I'm still watching Buffy and Angel. But with Buffy ending and Angel -- has it been renewed? -- in doubt, I have no new shows to be fannish about. (I did give Smallville a try for about 6 eps, but just couldn't deal.)

I find I'm moving into lit fandoms, which is cool and I'm enjoying it a lot. And there are some good movies coming up too. But I still want my weekly fannish TV fix. I want to sit there on the couch and stare and clench my fists and talk to the screen and know that I can go online afterwards and bond with people over it.

Is there anything on now that I should be jumping into? Heard about anything good coming up?

<shatner>Must...be...fannish.</shatner>

On a positive note, new episodes of Trailer Park Boys start April 20. This is an absolutely fucking brilliant Canadian show. It's faux reality -- a documentary about Julian and Ricky who are, well, trailer park boys. Each season takes place in between their numerous stints in jail.

They used to be contract pet killers. (If your neighbour's cat was menacing your birds, you would just call Julian and Ricky and put a hit on the cat.) Mostly now, they grow dope. This is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen and I'm in love with it. But it's not going to do for my fannish show.

So, got a fandom? Seduce me.

Miracles. It's X-Files but it's not. Definitely worth a look.

[identity profile] debchan.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto on Miracles. However, I must warn you not to get too attached as it's not doing so hot in the ratings and it's on ABC (Already Been Cancelled). It's on tonight, btw.

Someone else has been pimping Crossing Jordan, and made it sound interesting enough for a peek. I'm going to try to catch it on A&E reruns.

Oh! Fastlane! It's gayer than a gay thing is gay and can be very fun. Cars! Explosions! Pretty boys touching each other! Er. Ahem. Sorry.

[identity profile] boniblithe.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
*cries* It must be me. I am the death knell for shows.

Well, Everwood is good. I told silvia last night, it makes me want to be a teenager again so I can cuddle Ephram without going to jail, you know, for bad touching of young boys.

[identity profile] debchan.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's me, I swear. I have been the kiss of death for every show that's been cancelled. VR5, Strange Luck, Profit, American Gothic, The Others, The Lone Gunmen, Space: Above and Beyond, and many, many more. *sigh*

[identity profile] boniblithe.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hm! Maybe together, we cancel each other out? We should watch the same things! Heh.

[identity profile] debchan.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's obvious. We must stop watching tv for the good of mankind.

[identity profile] ex-mommybir.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, I thought *I* was the one getting shows cancelled!

*wonders if it would work on Smallville...*

[identity profile] debchan.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* It's about a female coroner who solves crimes. The slash (from what I've heard) is in the relationship between two minor characters. I am sad to see that it is up against Miracles on Mondays and Six Feet Under on A&E on Sundays. Darn it. Time to get that other VCR hooked up, I guess.

Oh, just thought of another show. Ask Te about Boomtown.

[identity profile] valarltd.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Stuff I watch has been long canceled.

The only current shows I follow are QAF,
Buffy, Smallville and 24.

OTOH, Sentinel and Simon & Simon reruns are definitely worth watching.
(Except that S&S isn't on A&Evil any more!)

[identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll just end up watching my tapes and DVDs of all the shows that I loved that are over now. We can have this whole retro-fandom thing happening.

Some of us relate to fandom primarily in that manner, actually. ::whistling Due South theme::

[identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm considering this a challenge, you know. Baltimore. Autumn. Guinness. Vecchio episodes.

Yeah.

[identity profile] barkley.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Stargate. Jack even drives a pick-up truck, and who can resist manly men having pick-up truck sex?

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Leap! Fling yourself in with mighty abandon! We're ready to pimp you stories. And vids. And stuff. *g*

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*whispers* And by the time you get caught up with seasons one and two on DVD, season three will be out, too, in June.

*pokes Hal ever so gently to topple her off the cliff*

[identity profile] barkley.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just so loveable. There's no other way to explain it. The movie is set about a year or so before the TV series begins, so you're already halfway there. (Well, one-sixtieth of the way there.)

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's continuity between the movie and the show - some subtle differences, but they even brought the same actors back for some of the pivotal roles, like Skaara and Kasuf, and they brought back characters from the movie with different actors where they had to. I consider most of what's in the movie to be canon; the show refers back to it as well, from time to time, about different things.

[identity profile] ex-mommybir.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like I only use my tv to watch DVDs these days. I just didn't let myself fall for Firefly--I had a Bad Feeling.

*throws self down and worships the icon*

[identity profile] ex-mommybir.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy to be influencing people. The movie influenced me to read the Ellman bio, which has been slow going but worthwhile. I see the purchase of a complete works of Wilde in my future.

Just to throw it out there-- how are you on Real People Fic/Slash? I'm a little reluctant to bring it up since all the fandoms I've seen discussed here are Fake People Fic/Slash. If you don't like it, I'll just shut up right now. :)

Fastlane is pretty and fluffy and explode-y. Like The Sentinel only gayer and without mystical powers. Also, like Starsky & Hutch. Or Miami Vice.

But really, incredibly gay.

And also with some good continuity!

Well, yes. Fridays at 8 on Fox. Also Fridays in Canada. (Are you Canadian? I don't remember.)

The second season of Jeremiah's about to start on Showtime, and it's definitely slash fodder. C'mon, write me some good Marcus/Jeremiah, woncha?

And don't forget there's always West Wing. And, um...Enterprise? *g*

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wait. Also, John Doe on Fox is reasonable. Though I'll give you, not particularly slashy. I think Miracles and Jeremiah are our best bets. I'll watch Miracles tonight.

Who's got money on it being cancelled before June? *sad g*

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2003-03-31 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeremiah: oh, like fifteen years ago all the adults died of a terrible disease. Now Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jamal Warner are all growed up in a post-apocalyptic world where cities and towns are gang-ified and run by the tough kids. Luke and Malcolm (Jeremiah and Kurdy) end up at a place called Thunder Mountain which was a research facility before all the grownups died, now it's a kind of a safe haven run by a kid called Markus who reminds me a whole lot of Mal from Firefly. With the weight of the world on his shoulders and whatnot. (And he's so TOTALLY in love with Jeremiah, I mean, duh) and they're all trying to find a cure for the disease and they're also trying to uncover a Secret Conspiracy of Allegedly Alive Grownups called "Valhalla Sector." Which, of course, Jeremiah's dad is a part of.

Mmmm, now I need to re-watch. Want I should dub the first season for you on tapes? 'Cause I'd do that for another Jeremiah fan. As there are, like, four of us.

Check out the Showtime website, www.sho.com, for more info and cute pictures.

Naturally, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't forgotten...

I wandered over to this discussion because I was searching for Marcus/Jeremiah slash, and this LJ comment came up on google. Seems like there's not a lot of M/J slash out there. ::sigh:: But you are so right -- Marcus is obviously crazy about Jeremiah. I came to the show late, watching tapes with a group of friends; we watched the final 3 episodes of Season 1 just tonight. The scene in "Means to An End" where Marcus is drunk and Jeremiah's allegedly trying to help him stay on his feet, and they're just all over each other -- total slash fodder. Some character, Erin I think, walks in and says to them, "What are you *doing*?" I said to my friends, "Inspiring fan fiction." I *wish*. It's got to be out there somewhere...

No joke. That's one of my favorite episodes, especially for Markus' line when Jeremiah says it's time to take Marcus home...Markus, clinging desperately to Jeremiah's shoulder, moaning "Jeremiah, I am home!" Oh, the slash, the slash.

Okay, now *both* of you owe me fic. I did not forget, [livejournal.com profile] prillalar, my memory is long...

Seems like there's not a lot of M/J slash out there.

Does this mean you've found *any*? I haven't found a lick of it. Recs, please?

LOL! Not enough slash? Not enough Jeremiah Fic period.

[identity profile] innogen.livejournal.com 2004-01-15 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Just to let you know this thread is alive and well. Read the Shower Fic, very nice. Now, what is it about this thing with Markus exiling Jeremiah to his own town but then constantly recalling him for...what, meetings? It's gotta be more than Theo driving him crazy, or Mr. Lee paranoia!

More please.

Inn.
