Stargate Saturday

I realise this is Sunday, not Saturday, but I watched the eps yesterday.

Stargate: SG-1 -- Sacrifices

You know, I liked this episode a lot until I started thinking about it. Well, OK, I only restrained myself from yelling out "Die, Rya'c, die!" because I knew the Boy hadn't had time to watch the ep yet either and I didn't want to spoil him. But mostly, I thought it was a lot of fun -- Teal'c arm porn, Jack doing the patented Jack-flail, Daniel and Sam SNUGGLING!!!!!!!!!! and some good action. Teal'c was so amazing, he made me think of that old Klingon proverb: four thousand throats may be cut in one night by a running man.

But then I started to ponder the gender issues. It seems like an ep which is meant to show that men and women should respect one another and acknowledge each other's strength. But then this was an ep where the female warrior became a damsel in distress and had to be saved by Teal'c. Where the young bride-to-be threw a hissy fit. Where the crowds of troublesome women had to be coaxed and corralled by Daniel and Bra'tac. Where Sam was manhandled by both Daniel and Jack.

It made me cranky. Or maybe it's just that time of the month.

Stargate: Rodney -- Home

Well, it might have been more interesting if we hadn't known from the second that Hammond appeared that it wasn't real. Or maybe not.

But Major Bedhead gets 1000 points from me for fantasizing a huge-ass poster of Johnny Cash in his dream bachelor pad.

Stargate: Rodney -- Home

You are sooooooooooo right.

Rodney, the unexpected hero of the new show. Has anybody told Gecko or MGM?

I assume they know, since they give him an "and" at the end of the credits, which is a bump up of recognition (like how Shanks got an "and" when he returned). Or so I was recently told, and then had it confirmed elsewhere as the way the industry works. Of course, that could have been because he was a previously established character - but then so was Weir (sort of), so I think it's more an acknowledgment of the actor/character.

And also - the gender issues of the SG-1 ep were unhappy. I especially groaned when we saw Teal'c leading Ishta around the forest with a hand on her wrist, guiding her. Oh ugh and a half.

The gender issues on SG-1 are always unhappy when the hamhanded jerks decide to take them on. Sam goes from being a competent, professional Air Force officer to mooning around after her CO, yadda yadda.

In other words, all we need is the support of a good man, literally, and we can be all we wanna be.

I'm sometimes amazed at how well Amanda Tapping does with the crap they give her.

Bingo! Now, that was cool!

(And seriously, Hammond? Yeah, we love him, but when the Atlantis team left, Jack was already in charge!)

*ahem* the above is in reply to this comment in particular--

I actually hated Sacrifices with a fiery passion; in part because of the gender issues you bring up, but mostly because I wanted to wring Jolene Blalock's neck. And I even liked her on Enterprise when I used to watch it. But wow, I was gritting my teeth every scene she was in.

And yes yes yes on the Johnny Cash poster in Sheppard's dream apartment (which was otherwise rather predictable and dull). I liked the ep overall, particularly the Weir bits. I covet her hair.

Loved the Johnny Cash poster. And the intercuts between different Atlantis people reacting to what they thought was happening.

Hated the misplayed gender issues in Stargate. They really should know better by now, But Hammond looked ill; frail. How is Don Davis really doing?

Re SG1 - exactly. *sigh* :(

*grins* Yeah, Atlantis' premise was meh, but it was executed in such a fun way. >D

Unfortunately, Rodney is the one thing that makes me turn off Stargate: Atlantis.

Yeah, I know. So often I wind up on the losing side. ;)

I think it's a collection of things about him, but he just makes my back teeth hurt. Eh. As you said. I suspect that they're trying for a different feel to the show.

But damn, I wish someone would lend Pilot What's-his-face a comb...
