Me too.
Context is everything. I was skimming along my flist when I saw Archer/Tucker in a post. Oh my god, I thought, that's a pretty sick pairing! Then I looked a little more closely and realised it was Enterprise, not Fullmetal Alchemist. So, not so sick after all. Only now I've got the FMA version stuck in my head. Yikes! Hmm...
Resistance is futile. PSA for some of the fangirls on my flist:
oceana_ is a newly minted Jeremiah fan! So in case you want to gather her up and stuff. *g* And for everyone else? It's a great show. Rent the DVDs. Jeremiah is angsty and laconic. Kurdy is complicated and hot like a hot thing. Markus has the prettiest mouth I ever did see. All that and a post-apocalyptic world served up by JMS. What's not to like?
Futile, really. Still scarfing back Prince of Tennis eps. I'm up to ep 55 now but I'm putting myself on downloading moratorium until at least the middle of the week. Every time Inui's glasses flash, I think he must really be a Goa'uld. Jeez, he's freaky enough to be one. (Somehow, I think that would be the Crossover No-One Would Read, since there must be very little overlap between those fandoms.) And MizukixYuuta is canon, right? Also: I think HP fandom has given me an unreasonable expectation of how many stories are going to be available for particular pairings. *sigh*
We fear change. I realised the other day, when someone was saying they couldn't wait for the next Harry Potter book to come out, that really, I'm just not ready for it. I need more time, much more time, before there's another paradigm shift. Of course, if I weren't writing fic, I'd be dying for it. But somehow, now, the fic -- the universe -- is more important to me than the story. I'm not sure that's happened in any other fandom for me. But the canon-infusion schedule in this fandom is so different from others as well. Do you feel the same way? Do you need more time?
I love you guys. I am full of fandom love these days. What cool people fans are! People who write fic and sub anime and draw fanart and maintain archives and read fic and comment on discussions and make icons and dress up to go see movies and when they find someone who likes the same things, will say so.
I've been thinking this year about how so much of what we, as human beings, say to one another is pretty meaningless on the surface, but when we talk about the weather or traffic or what we did at the weekend, what we're really saying is: I'm alive, you're alive, that's good.
That's true in fandom as well, but I think first and foremost, we're saying: me too, me too. It's not enough to love these things, we need to share that love. That really came home to me strongly when I was watching through my B5 DVDs earlier this year. I came to the climax of the S4 arc and was just so filled with emotion that I had to share it. So I posted to LJ, but all I posted was Ivanova's rather famous speech. No commentary, just the quote. And people commented just to say how much they liked Ivanova, how much they missed the show. Just to say me too.
No, I haven't been drinking.
OK, now I must try to shift my brain from tennis to Quidditch. Catch you later.

Re: Me too
I'm not a very active fan (XF is the only one I've ever been interactive in), though I do browse and read and lurk in several others. But that's why I got online and looked around for XF in the first place- I didn't have any RL friends to share my love with, that could say "Me, too." And it's been a wonderful, fabulous thing, to have these friends from all over to share the love.
And I need more HP time, too. Not because I write, and I honestly don't read much HP fic, but because I've found a new love for my Literature degree and want to constantly reread and analyze the books. I listen to them on tape, incessantly, and take notes a lot. My sister just laughed at me because she borrowed my car and found a brochure for an antiques fleamarket covered in scribbled thoughts and questions from when I was listening to OotP. I'm such a geek.
And thanks, for being there and sharing groovy thoughts all the time!
Re: Me too
Hee! Good for you. There's so much scope in those books for discussion and speculation.

And my two cents about the next HP book: the way you are feeling is how I was feeling about OotP's release. I had only been writing HP fanfic for a few months when it was announced that the book would be released in June 2003, and I was so filled with fear. I liked canon the way it was, and wanted to keep working with it as it was. And I was right, wasn't I? Now, I need the next book freaking yesterday, because I don't want to write in this universe until I've seen the survivors of OotP deal with Sirius's death, because I can't do it in their absence, y'see.

And really, when we get book 6, and read it in the 4 hours it will take us, there's only one book left. And when this canon is over, it is over. I don't want to think about that yet.

*grins* yeah I know. It was just so familiar, you know?
