Randomosity with hobbit garnish.

Thanks to everyone who posted on the tenses in fanfic topic. I hope you don't mind if I don't reply to everyone individually. After all, I'm just trying to suck the smartness out of your brains and keep it for myself. *g*

I was reading slashdot today and people kept commenting about things like Jeremiah and Elijah Wood movies. I had this moment of Is this slashdot or LJ?

~

I went out to look for CDs and came back with DVDs. S2 of Cracker and S3 & S4 of Red Dwarf. We watched a bit of Red Dwarf and I just swooned over Rimmer. What *is* it about him that's so dead sexy? He's such a loser and rather nasty too. Which is probably what I like.

The DVDs came with a little set of trading cards of the cast, so I think I'll stick the Rimmer one up on my monitor. He's in his green uniform, so very toothsome.

Reason #3456 that Remus Lupin is lusted after by fans: He is totally in our league. He's not a great hero or devastatingly attractive or rich or powerful. If he lived in my town, I might have a chance with him.

If I were writing a story right now, it would be about some hobbits. Some lazy beer-drinking hobbits who need to Make Money Fast so they have to set up some sort of scam.

"Do you have that, Boko?" Pippin said. "When I talk about Peregrin's Amazing Brain and Vigour Tonic, you heckle me from the crowd."

"And then when you ask for volunteers, I step up." Boko picked up one of the bottles and squinted at the label. "Why is your picture on here and not mine?"

"You can hardly be my shill if you're on the label, idiot." Pippin took the bottle away and packed it into a crate. "Now get the waggon -- we want to be at the Floating Log by 4 o'clock."

Boko trotted down the lane as Pippin leaned back with his pipe. This scheme was sure to pay off. They'd be back in beer and beefsteak in no time.

"Taking a trip, are you?" Merry said.

Pippin jumped. "Must you sneak around?" He casually pushed the lid on the crate with his foot. "Boko and I had a fancy for the beer at the Log, so we thought we'd take a jaunt out there."

Merry's eyes narrowed. "I'm sure you won't mind if I go with you, then. It's lovely weather for a drive."

"Oh, it's sure to rain, Merry, and the cart's only got room for two."

"You can ride in the back, Pippin. Unless there's no room there either?" Merry was looking right at the crate and Pippin wondered how he was going to get out of this one.

What *is* it about him that's so dead sexy?

Naked, tied up, arms above his head.

That convinced me.

I'd link you to a pic but google is failing me in the Red Dwarf screen caps stakes.

That's when I fell hard, too. And like you, I've looked all over the net for that picture and can't find it anywhere. ::sigh::

The pecs, the biceps, and by god, the triceps. That was damn fine. And wonderfully, you know, tied up and bare-skinned.

Sorry, just dwelling.

I'm with you.

It's *all* about the pathos. That's what makes the show work, IMO. That's the heart of all the best comedy.

Sadly, I have no idea. I'm a weak Red Dwarf fan! I had a scan through an episode guide site but nothing jabbed my memory.

One of the other commentors might know.

I *believe* it's called Rimmerworld? or maybe not, but it's the one where the planet shapes itself to Rimmer's subconscious and he gets tied up and tortured by his own self-loathing, and they all have to make him believe they love him for the ship to take off at the end.

God, I REQUIRE those dvds. PBS used to show reruns when I was quite young, and every saturday night I would sit and watch and it completely warped my sense of humor. *giggle*

I had a huge crush on Rimmer a few years back and I still love him to bits. I think Chris Barrie is hugely talented and I wish he was in more on TV. There IS something weirdly sexy about Rimmer - I don't know why but he does have a certain vulnerability and pathos despite being a total misfit and quite obnoxious with it. And yay to that scene where he's strung up half naked (g)

[identity profile] xanthelj.livejournal.com 2004-03-31 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it was Rimmer that Holly brought back to keep Lister company and I like to think there's a deeper reason for that (g).

Soooo, any chance you'll write some Rimmer/Lister slash humour?!

[identity profile] xanthelj.livejournal.com 2004-03-31 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well you'd have one reader here for sure so I'll live in hope (g) But you have to go where the muse takes you of course!

i was just getting into rimmer slash but then i found lj and qaf. anyway, everybody only loves him, and i feel totally sad for lister, but i can´t help it either, i have been buying the dvds just for chris barrie (have not seen them and fear i have no stickers, whinge, want chris to stick up).

i was looking for the photo your friend mentioned but don´t have it saved either.

haven´t heard or seen a lister fangirl yet!

kept wondering if racism is involved, but did not dare to voice that on my reddwarf list. rimmer is a perfect slash example - we identify with him and want to have him as well, just like slash started out. one of them is a pretty young girl and when she and her boyfriend dress up, she´s lister. i just thought that must frustrate her a little bit.

ps: and chris is so smart and funny and good with his voice, don´t forget that.

I adore Rimmer. He's so fucked up - extremely sympathetic, but he really is repellant - cowardly, petty, nasty. My favourite kind of character (as you can tell from my icon) ;)

[identity profile] slinkhard.livejournal.com 2004-03-31 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
And perhaps write a cross over ;) God, can you imagine?...

As you can see from the replies, you're not alone in your Rimmer-lust. I can't say I share it, but a good e-friend of mine has a big ole jones for him. I can totally see the Rimmer/Lister slash though. I mean, who else are they gonna fuck? Cat is only in love with himself.

Likely unbearable. He'd whine something fierce. *relents on the cookie ban*

Hobbits, yay!

Pippin wondered how he was going to get out of this one - I think Pippin must have wondered that often.

This really brightened my hectic day, thank you!

I'm not slagging him, as I don't know who he is. I am not saying that he is not good. Only that he is not as good as hobbits. heh.
