Let us drink! Why wait for the lamps? There is only a finger of daylight left. Take down the richly decorated cups.

The son of Zeus and Semele gave wine to mortals so they might forget their troubles. Pour out, mixing one measure of water to two meaures of wine, full to the brim, and let one cup jostle another.

When I reread Edith Hamilton's Mythology recently, I was surprised to learn that the festivals celebrating Dionysus were dedicated to theater. It suits me to think that we have him to thank for wine and drama.
