I buy tuna like some people buy shoes. I get into the grocery store and something pulls me towards the tinned fish aisle. Oh, I say to myself. I need tuna. But, like shoes (or so I hear), I have to spend some time to find the right tins. Because I read an article once that told me what tuna to buy and what to avoid. You have to check where it was tinned and from one place it's good and another it's bad. But when I'm standing in the grocery store at 7AM and I've only had a few swallows of coffee, I can never remember which place is which, so I go by the alphabet or by spinning around with my eyes closed and grabbing the first tin I touch.

Also, some of the tins have pictures of dolphins on them. This tuna is dolphin-approved, I think. But what do dolphins know about tuna? Besides, I hate dolphins. But then maybe the picture means that the tuna contains dolphin. I've never had dolphin (except in tuna) so I'm not sure if I like the taste. Close eyes, spin, grab.

When I've got my five tins picked out, I take them home and open the cupboard and discover that I've already got 20 tins in there. But, really, that's not enough. What if there were a shortage? Or if I had to isolate myself due to bird flu? (So long as dolphins aren't a carrier!) Best to get more.

I do like tuna a lot, but even so, I can't eat all that I buy. I think this impulse comes from my childhood when I would only take tuna sandwiches for lunch to school, from elementary up to high school. For some reason, nobody wanted to sit next to me at lunch. But those sandwiches were the best, soggy and warm. Tuna means comfort. Tuna means happiness. Tuna means love.

I shudder to think how much mercury I consumed. Still, it never hurt me. Unless that's the reason I can never remember how much tuna I have in the cupboard.

I now have an undeniable craving for tuna. Though I'm heading out to a holiday party, where chances of tuna sandwiches are slim to none. Alas!

How do you eat it though? Do you eat it plain? Or do you eat the ones that are flavoured like 'tomato and basil' 'lemon and pepper' because those are only 52% tuna.

Do you add lettuce?

I've never worked out a proper way to eat tuna even though I do like it.

Mm, tuna. I haven't had a tuna sandwich in a while and now I have some new seasonings I could use to flavor it. Sesame soy, maybe. Or chili powder (found some nice mild stuff that I can actually use). Or good old lemon pepper, which is just yum.

I buy plain tuna and then add mayo or plain yogurt to it. Sometimes I add lemon pepper and mustard. Sometimes I add soy sauce and wasabi. Sometimes dill.

I used to eat it on crackers with cheese or on bread, but now that I'm eating low-carb, it's harder. I just use a fork or sometimes use cucumber slices as substitute crackers.

The quiche sounds great. I'll have to look for tuna quiche recipes.

I feel so close to you right now. I think I'm going to die from mercury poisoning too. I buy tuna in bulk of 20s each time and I panic whenever I've less than 10 left. I've been eating tuna sushi almost daily. Why does this fish give so much happiness?

tuna sandwich: mayonnaise + muenster cheese + insane amounts of chopped onions + crushed doritos = YUMMY BLISS. (i'm very serious about tuna, okay)

And, it's the tuna companies, they put in a special ingredient to make you buy lots of tuna :)

Just make sure you look up the article about which tuna to buy! I should get it tattooed on the back of my hand.

Tinned tuna is such a homey food. I used to make instant tuna casserole from Kraft Easy Mac, tuna, and frozen peas.

I'm not wild about raw tuna, actually. It's the texture more than anything.

I wonder what the symptoms of mercury poisoning are but I'm afraid to look them up because then I'll know I have it for sure.

Ooh, that sounds like a good cheese to use. And I used to put salt and vinegar chips into my tuna sandwiches.

I never eat raw tuna either. I never eat raw anything that was had a face lol Cooked tuna sushi is SO GOOD. I tried to switch to canned salmon once and it was disgusting. I'm afraid to google for mercury poisoning too :|

I love raw salmon, though. And I have one tin of salmon in my cupboard, next to all the tuna. I can't remember why I bought it. I think I was trying to be fancy.

See, I don't eat fish. I hate fish, I just can't stand the taste. Never could.

But... tuna is so much more than just fish. Somewhere between the sea and the can, something was done to it that actually made it kind of tasty! I would say that I am down with tuna, and I heartily approve of this tuna post. (And sushi, sushi isn't fish either for some reason, but sushi posts are a dime a dozen around these parts) I really despise dolphins, though.

I don't even think of tinned tuna as fish. If I'm out and I have a tuna steak or tuna sushi or something, that's fish. But tinned tuna is tuna. You're right -- there's something magical that they do to it that makes it extra wonderful!

I'm not fond of dolphins either, so consuming them makes me happy.

I could never get the whole shoe thing until I equated it with tuna. :D
