Work wasn't very busy today so I skived off early and went to see X2. But as soon as I got home, I had to game so I've only just now got to write about it.
Enjoyed, enjoyed. I'm not sure that the story was very strong, but I'm just there for the characters anyhow. And they were cool.
When the troops storm the mansion and they come across that little kid with his round and round glasses, me and half the theatre called out, "It's Harry Potter!"
Magneto -- Ian McKellen is so subtle and creepy. Love the inflection he uses. Love him and Xavier. Love him and Pyro. God, love him and Pyro. Want me some inappropriate Magneto/Pyro fic. Just the way the camera pulled in on the moment when their hands touched. Gah.
And Magneto's escape scene -- I love his sense of theatre. Oh, and the cape he has later. Red lined. Mmm.
When we were waiting for the movie to start, they were flashing those stupid quiz questions up on the screen and there was one about Sir Ian, where it referred to him as the "leader of the X-Men". And I thought: either they haven't got a clue or that's a spoiler. I'm thinking now that they haven't got a clue.
Logan -- Sexy bitch. Nice fights, nice kissing. The Logan/Jean/Scott triangle is my favourite part of these movies. Plus, now I'm glad I read that whole Wolverine genesis story in Marvel Comics Presents in the 90s.
Jean -- Always beautiful. Liked her power. Liked her kissing Logan. But I didn't feel like her other mutant power -- being attractive to men -- was working full force. She should be sparky with all male beings, not just those two. (Well, except for Magneto.) Nice ending, though.
Scott -- Wish he'd had more screen time, more dialogue.
Rogue -- We only had to hear her scream two or three times in this movie, so definitely some character development there. I did like her scenes with Bobby, and the whole tension with Logan.
Bobby -- Worked well with Logan, I thought. His "I'm her boyfriend" was good and cooling Logan's soda was a nice moment.
Storm -- When are they going to do something with Halle Berry? Seemed like there could have been some good stuff with her and Kurt, but it didn't go anywhere.
Kurt -- So beautiful. I loved the teleport effects, the swirl. The accent was nice and I really liked his overt religiosity. And the lines about the Munich circus.
When he was talking to Mystique, I remembered something from years ago, when Kurt was with Excalibur. There was this woman on the team -- forget her name -- who could shapeshift. One ish Kurt had a dream where she had shapeshifted to look like another like him, a woman of his "species". One of them was lifting a hand to touch the other's cheek and it was the sexiest panel I'd ever seen in a comic book.
Xavier -- Creepy as fuck. Nice.
Stryker -- Not as thrilled with him as I would have liked. He didn't have the presence I would have expected. But maybe I'm petulant because of what he did to Magneto.
Pyro, Pyro, Pyro. My secret jailbait boyfriend. So sullen, so dangerous. When Magneto asked him for his real name I just shivered. Besides inappropriate Magneto/Pyro, I would enjoy to see some Pyro/Ronny Drake. Think of all the rage. Harry says that George Lucas should have cast Aaron Stanford as Anakin.
Peter Wingfield. Heh.
Even if this movie had sucked from beginning to end, I would still be going back to see Scott and Logan sobbing in each other's arms. My god. Scott and Logan. Sobbing. In each other's arms.
I don't have time to write more Logan/Scott. Kill me now.
(I did mean to finish Sucks To Be You before this movie, but I didn't and now I'm jossed for what I wanted the arc to be.)
Time to turn on the mail on all my X-Men lists! And maybe go back tomorrow! And not write any Logan/Scott! No, no, no.

I'm not up-to-date on what archives there are.
And no doubt the Logan/Scott will be written eventually. Foul deeds will rise and all that.

Ah, yes. But now I have a whole other AU in another verse to deal with.
X2 spoilers ahoy!
(Anonymous) 2003-05-05 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)I haven't made a live journal so I'm here anonymously, I guess. You're the first person I've come across who's seen X2 -- my usual buddy probably has her butt in the theatre right now, absorbing it for the 15th time.
Magneto -- I don't see how Pyro could have resisted him. Glad he didn't. McKellen allllmost goes overboard with Magneto but stops just short, just in time to make it perfect. He seems to enjoy this guy. I hope he does.
Pyro -- I keep superimposing Angel's son Connor over the actor.
Kurt -- YeefuckinHAH, that BAMF special effect is great! What a sweet guy. And that circus schpiel was fun. Love the tattoos. Is the crucifix on his rosary made of nails? You mentioned him in Excalibur -- was the woman you're talking about Megan? The big goofy captain's main squeeze? I've still got the early Alan Davis-drawn Excalibur's, I'll check.
Logan -- Still my Number 1 guy here. Loved the flashbacks when he was fresh and bloody from the tank. Yeah, I like the Logan/Jean/Scott thing, too. Logan comes in and immediately starts putting his mark on everything of Scott's. If this were the Discovery Channel ....
Rogue -- when will she fly?
Oh, my, Peter Wingfield, he was a slurpy surprise. Did they dub his voice early on?
And you said -- "Even if this movie had sucked from beginning to end, I would still be going back to see Scott and Logan sobbing in each other's arms." Oh yeah, me too. Big time. Really nice pain on Logan's face, there.
Thanks for giving me a place to babble, and thanks, as always for the kick-ass stories.

Re: X2 spoilers ahoy!
ITA. It reminds me of Rickman as Snape, actually. They both just make it *work* when it really shouldn't.
And, yeah, Megan is ringing a bell. That book was good for a while, but IIRC, the art got really terrible. But the scene I'm talking about -- SO sexy.
